Hazelnut Dalgona Coffee

If you’re active on social media then you’re probably seen pictures of dalgona coffee. This colorful whipped coffee beverage may look like something you’d find in a restaurant but can be made right at home with only 4 ingredients.

What is dalgona coffee?

Interestingly enough, dalgona coffee doesn’t contain dalgona at all. Dalgona is a Korean sponge candy. Dalgona coffee is a combination of instant coffee, sugar and hot water that is mixed together and placed on top of a glass of milk. The combination of colors and textures makes for a striking and colorful beverage.

You can use an immersion blender or a hand mixer to create the dalgona foam, if you find that easier or more preferable than whisking by hand. If you’re going to be serving the beverage to a group of people or refrigerating the creamy foam then this will definitely save you some time and energy. I have had this hand blender for a couple of years now and love it, it’s helpful for recipes like this one because it includes a whisk.

Here’s how to make hazelnut dalgona coffee.

This recipe makes 2 servings.

Fill a glass with ice cubes and top with desired amount of hazelnut creamer. If you just want a touch of sweetness go for a teaspoon, but if you’re looking for intense flavor you might want to go with an ounce.

Fill up the rest of your glass with the milk of your choice.

Common Questions

Dalgona coffee cannot be made using regular brewed coffee beans or k-cups. The foamy topping that is so popular is a direct result of the drying process of the instant coffee’s granules.

The creamy foam that goes on the top of the beverage can actually be refrigerated for a couple of days, for those of you that love the beverage but want to minimize the prep work required to make it.

I had no idea you could do this with non dairy creamer. What a delightful flavor for a dalgona coffee.
