What is dalgona coffee?
Interestingly enough, dalgona coffee doesn’t contain dalgona at all. Dalgona is a Korean sponge candy. Dalgona coffee is a combination of instant coffee, sugar and hot water that is mixed together and placed on top of a glass of milk. The combination of colors and textures makes for a striking and colorful beverage.
You can use an immersion blender or a hand mixer to create the dalgona foam, if you find that easier or more preferable than whisking by hand. If you’re going to be serving the beverage to a group of people or refrigerating the creamy foam then this will definitely save you some time and energy. Here’s how to make hazelnut dalgona coffee.
This recipe makes 2 servings.
Equipment Needed
- whisk
- very large measuring cup or small pitcher
- measuring spoon
- immersible blender (optional)
Ingredients
- 2 tbsp instant coffee
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 2 tbsp hot water
- hazelnut nondairy creamer
- milk of choice
- ice cubes
Instructions
Place the instant coffee, sugar, and hot water into a very large measuring cup or a pitcher and whisk until peaks are formed. You could even use a hand mixer if you prefer. If you don’t have a large measuring cup or a pitcher, you can use a bowl as well.
Fill a glass with ice cubes and top with desired amount of hazelnut creamer. If you just want a touch of sweetness go for a teaspoon, but if you’re looking for intense flavor you might want to go with an ounce.
Fill up the rest of your glass with the milk of your choice.
Put one to three spoonfuls of the whipped coffee mixture on top before serving.
