My little guy is 15 years old. I guess that means technically he isn’t a little guy any more. But to me he is, what can I say. Having Down syndrome he has some developmental delays. Finding things that interest him can be challenging, to say the least. One of the things that does interest him is technology. He really enjoys it and picks it up quickly. It helps him communicate with others, and have fun as well.
My son was very excited when I gave him a new VTech Kidizoom Smartwatch. He’s had one or two actual “children’s watches” before and had no interest in them whatsoever. The Kidizoom fascinates him.

The VTech Kidizoom Smartwatch has a very easy to use 1.4 inch square touchscreen face. The watch has a rechargeable battery, which you can recharge by using the included USB cable. From the home screen you can access different menus for features like clock, voice recorder, camera, alarm clock, stopwatch, games, and even four games. More games are available to download from the Learning Lodge using the USB cable.

I am a great believer that children should be able to use a regular clock with a face. I love that the Kidizoom lets children see the time in traditional and digital formats. There are actually over 50 different displays your child can choose from.

My son’s favorite feature of the Smartwatch is the camera. My son has always enjoyed taking pictures. The Kidizoom not only lets you take pictures but it also lets you add special effects to your photos. Along with pictures, the camera can even shoot short videos. Pictures and videos that your child takes can be uploaded to the computer by USB.
My favorite feature of the Smartwatch is the voice recorder. It has five voice changing effects but I like it for another reason. I like it because it lets me record a brief message that my son can play whenever he wants. I like knowing that my son can hear my messages telling him how much I love him in my real voice.
The watch arrived almost fully charged, and didn’t start to have noticeable battery decrease for a good week. That’s not bad at all considering he was doing a lot of picture taking and game playing, as well as listening to voice recordings.

The VTech Kidizoom Watch has a suggested age range of 4 to 7 years old. As you may or may not recall depending on how long you’ve been reading, I often ignore suggested age ranges. I find the watch to be a great fit for my son, partially because of it’s capabilities and partially because it’s durable and looks a pretty age appropriate. The VTech Kidizoom Smartwatch retails for $59.99 and is available in white, blue, pink and green.
Here’s a brief video that shows the watch a bit better.
