Recently I joined a group called Brandfluential because I believe in what the two awesome founders are doing and believe they’re going to successful and able to offer bloggers lots of fun and great opportunities. They’re off to a great start because today members got the heads up on an awesome contest from Sears and KitchenAid called the Rescue My Appliances Contest that just launched today.
To enter the contest all you need to do is submit a photo of your old kitchen appliances. The winner will receive a new suite of appliances from KitchenAid® (worth $7,000), Service Live Credits toward remodeling (worth $1,000), and a phone consultation with Susan Serra, kitchen design expert (worth $200)! My appliances are a hot mess, seriously. Let me show you some things.
This is my stove.
The stove is about 15 years old. This model had the back burners really close to the edge, and my kitchen is small to start. Guess what happens when you have this situation? The back wall gets hot from the pot being too close and the heat burns holes in your wall. We used to have just the larger one on the left but I guess Murphy felt things weren’t symmetrical and gave us one on the right too. Next is the knobs. We’re missing one knob and another knob doesn’t fit right. We got a price on replacement knobs and they were like $50. Crazy, I know! So we put one we found on one side but it sits higher than the others. We left the other empty, which means all sorts of crap falls in there and collects. Another thing about our stove, which is gas, is the electric pilot starter. It doesn’t always work. So sometimes when we turn a knob we just hear clicking. Sometimes we hear nothing. Sometimes we get flame, sometimes we don’t. You want a Mystery Dinner Theater? Come to our house. Maybe you’ll get a meal as planned, maybe you’ll get a sandwich.
Next up is the dishwasher.
The dishwasher is also about 15 years old. It was an entry level model when it was new, having all of two cycles – normal and pots/pans. Normal stopped working a long time ago. Pots/pans works but only cleans like a rinse cycle. The front of the dishwasher simply does not come clean. You can clean it and two minutes later it looks disgusting again. The bottom panel of the dishwasher is crooked and loose. The dishwasher door doesn’t always close all of the way, which means that sometimes when a load of dishes is going water comes out the bottom left corner and goes all over the kitchen floor. It’s gross and not fun to clean, and the puddles make the floor really slippery.
This is my oven.
I’d like to tell you the oven is a hot mess but I can’t. I can tell you it’s an almost hot mess, maybe a warm mess. See the temperature has been off for a while. We have to adjust all of the cooking times because if you follow cooking directions the food will be underdone. The door is a little wonky, sometimes you have to shut it two or three times before it shuts all the way. The broiler drawer underneath does nothing but take space. It hasn’t been able to be used for cooking in years because it doesn’t shut all of the way. Now we store some small pans there.
So there you have it. That’s the appliances in the photo that I submitted to the Rescue My Appliances contest.

At the end of the “Public Voting Period,” the top ten scoring photos with the most “Popular Votes” will be deemed the Finalists. I think Dad would be insulted if I entered with all the work he has put in. Idea the downsstairs kitchen! It is green--40+ years old--no dishwasher, and a refrig that was recycled.
