I have never had a massage. I’ve heard for ages how wonderful they are. Recently I had the opportunity to visit the Hand And Stone Spa nearby for a massage.

ABOUT HAND AND STONE

Hand & Stone is a 30-plus unit massage and facial spa with a mission to bring massage and massage services to the masses, tapping into the day-cation market segment. Launched in 2005 by a passionate physical therapist, Jon Marco and now lead by franchise veteran Todd Leff, Hand & Stone now resides in 9 states and Canada with plans to open an additional 27 locations by the end of 2010.

MY THOUGHTS

Upon arrival at the spa I was greeted immediately by a friendly woman. She asked me for information, some simple questions. After that I was introduced to the owner Marie, who was very nice and told me a bit about the business. Then I was taken into the massage room. The room contained an area for the lotions and such, an area for undressing, and the massage table. Once undressed I got up on the table.

The masseuse was very professional and very friendly. She asked me questions about what type of massage I wanted. Never having had a massage I wasn’t exactly sure on how to answer. I told her I didn’t want the really hard massage that’s like pinching (what my husband ends up doing), but that I also didn’t want a really soft massage. She seemed to know exactly what I had in mind, but asked a few questions as we started so she could adjust accordingly. Once a few minutes passed I relaxed and found the room to be very peaceful, with soft music playing. I felt very comfortable. She used a warm oil that smelled nice. At the end when I dressed I was happy to find a hot towel, so that I could wipe off any remaining massage oil from my skin before dressing. My massage lasted for almost one hour. I don’t know how else to describe the massage other than as an hour of heaven. It was so relaxing, great for tense muscles.

The facility looked very clean and the people were very friendly. I’d recommend it for anyone looking for a massage. Also, they offer gift certificates. With the holidays around the corner a massage would make a great gift too. Not only can you get a massage there, they offer a membership with a monthly fee that can save you money if you get frequent massages.
