T-fal OptiGrill

I think I’ve mentioned a couple of times that I have a bit of a fear of outdoor BBQ grills. I have a very healthy respect for anything that involves fire. As a result, I don’t grill. Either hubby grills or we don’t have grilled food. Now hubby really likes grilled food. Even if he was always in the mood, the weather isn’t always conducive to backyard grilling. I was quite intrigued when I first heard about the new T-fal OptiGrill.

T-fal OptiGrill

The T-fal OptiGrill has built-in technology that enables it to know how to cook foods based on the program you select and the thickness of the item you’re grilling. There are six preset programs:

  • Burger
  • Poultry
  • Sandwiches
  • Sausage
  • Pork/Red Meat
  • Fish

The OptiGrill also has a manual cooking function for grilling fruits and vegetables or personal recipes that might not fit into one of the six preset programs. With the manual function you need to be near the grill and monitor the progress of the food yourself.

The T-fal OptiGrill is very easy to use. The grill heats up pretty quickly, with the cooking level indicator changing color when the grill is heated and ready. The indicator light will change to let you know that it’s time to put the meat onto the grill. The grill has a hinged top plate that will automatically adjust to the different thicknesses of different foods. The OptiGrill’s automatic cooking sensors automatically adapt to the thickness of foods, ensuring you get food cooked the way you want it. As your food cooks the indicator lights will change color, changing from rare to medium to well-done. You’ll hear a beep as the levels change as well, yellow for rare, orange for medium and red for well-done. If you forgot to defrost the meat you’re cooking there’s a defrost button you can select as well.

As the food cooks fats and oils move down the angled plates of the grill, collecting in the extra large removable drip tray.

Every thing we have made on the T-fal OptiGrill so far has come out perfectly. We’ve made burgers, steaks, chicken and sausage. All of the meats were done how we wanted. They weren’t charred on the outside (something I don’t like). They were all juicy and tender on the inside, which in my opinion makes meals taste much better.

The T-fal OptiGrill looks and feels very sturdy and durable. I love that it has a brushed stainless steel housing, making it modern looking and easy to clean. The grill’s non-stick coating help prevent food from sticking, making for a quicker clean-up. Speaking of cleaning, I really love that the die-cast aluminum plates and drip tray are all removable and dishwasher safe. It’s great that this appliance frees up your hands in the kitchen. Not only is it handling the cooking and you aren’t constantly turning, you don’t even have to stand right there watching the food because the built-in technology will let you know when the food is done.

Here’s a brief video that details the OptiGrill a bit better.
