With real-life stories to proudly represent the residents and visitors who make Pinecraft unique, the cookbook includes easy-to-prepare recipes using readily available ingredients. Busy women on the go are offered trouble-free, family meals with a taste of simplicity. Including 16 full-color photographs and black-and-white photographs, the cookbook includes traditional Amish favorites, such as: banana sour cream bread, sweet potato sweet mash, and vanilla crumb pie — as well as tropical tastes from Florida: grilled lime fish filets, alligator stew, avocado egg scramble and strawberry mango smoothie.
Sherry Gore is the author of Simply Delicious Amish Cooking (formerly titled Taste of Pinecraft) and is the editor-in-chief of Cooking and amp; Such magazine, which has been called “completely heartwarming and visually stunning” by Amish novelist Cindy Woodsmall . Sherry is also a weekly scribe for the national edition of the 120-year-old Amish newspaper, The Budget. The National Geographic Channel featured Sherry prominently in the 2012 debut season of their documentary series, Amish: Out of Order. Sherry is a year-round resident of beautiful, sun-kissed Sarasota, Florida, the vacation paradise of the Plain People. She has three children and is a member of a Beachy Amish Mennonite church. She’s a caregiver to her twenty-two-year-old daughter, a Sunday school teacher, a cooking show host, and an official pie contest judge. As an author and longtime resident of Pinecraft, Sherry has worked with local Sarasota County government and various travel groups to generate interest for this unique and beautiful village.
MY THOUGHTS
The first thing you notice aout this cookbook is that it’s spiral-bound. I love that in a cookbook because it makes it so easy to work with.
The Recipes chapter includes:

- Meats and Main Dishes

- Cookies and Bars
- Pies
- Cakes and Frostings
- Desserts
- This and That
The recipes are all easy to understand, and call for ordinary ingredients that you probably have in your kitchen or can easily find in your grocery store. Recipes are missing cooking and prep time, two things I like to see because they help me decide what recipe to try. Some interesting notes and anecdotes are sprinkled throughout the book. There aren’t a ton of pictures in the book but the ones that are there are colorful and appetizing. One other thing that I like is that the pages have a glossy finish, which I find tends to be better at deterring permanent stains when using the cookbook. If you’re looking for simple recipes for home cooked comfort cuisine then this cookbook is for you.

I thought the Amish-Menonite people centered around Pennsylvania, Ohio, New York, and Indiana--silly me.
