I have always been a mom who makes sure her kids eat healthy foods and snacks. I am also on a diet after having my son 7 months ago so I, too, am sticking only to healthy foods. I jumped at the chance to review MySuperSnack soft Granola Bites by MySuperFoods, a fairly new company that provides all natural, on-the-go foods for kids ages 2-12.
I received MySuperSnack (soft) Granola Bites for review in 2 flavors: Apple Raisin and Blueberry Banana Acai. The flavors of both are undeniably delicious. I love granola bars, and these bites did not disappoint. They had a lot of granola flavor and the softness of them gave them a unique twist. The Apple Raisin was definitely my favorite, though the Blueberry Banana Acai was super yummy too! Kids and adults alike can appreciate the flavors.
However, there were a couple of drawbacks to these snacks. While the packaging is adorable, I was a little confused by how small the bags were. Each bag is meant to be an “on-the-go” snack, so they are re-sealable to be able to snack here and there. However, each bag has only 4 granola bites, each one literally being bite-sized, so 4 bites do not last long enough for snacking throughout the day. I am sure my daughter would easily be able to eat all 4 for a snack at one time. Still, it is a cute and innovative idea; it just possibly could have been implemented a little better.
Another thing I noticed was the calories and fat calories in these bites. Each bag of 4 bites counts as a serving. For 4 small bites, it is 180 calories and 70 calories from fat for the Apple Raisin, 80 calories from fat for the Blueberry Banana Acai. I know calories aren’t everything, but for someone who counts calories daily and tries to control them as much as possible for my kids, I found them to be a bit high for such a small snack. On the plus side, these bites are full of vitamins and fiber – definitely two important parts of a healthy diet!
Overall, I think MySuperFoods has a good thing going with this product. I would like to see bigger bags of these that I could take on an outing to the park, for instance, and less calories in the bites. MySuperFoods seems like an innovative new company who is devoted to making super-healthy snacks for kids – definitely a type of company I can support. Even better: they donate 1% of their sales to ending child hunger in the U.S.! To find out more about MySuperFoods, visit http://www.mysuperfoodscompany.com.
