The alternative title for this post is “a cute idea but a Pinterest fail”.
With summer being underway and the heat having arrived, many Dads here at the Jersey shore now have regular pool duty. Generally many locals open their pools around Memorial Day. After that, since everyone’s enjoying them, they have to do regular cleaning and upkeep. You know, skim leaves put chlorine in, all that fun stuff.
With tomorrow being Father’s Day there will be lots of BBQs and parties. No doubt tomorrow we’ll see many families in their pools, some members splashing around and some floating around in inflatable toys. Which is where I got the idea for Peeps In A Pool.
I thought this would make a quick, simple and fun little dessert for Dads to enjoy on Father’s Day. It’s very easy to make, so easy that the kids can make it. The problem with it is, no matter how much food coloring I added the “pool” (or milk) would not stay blue, it always turned green. Green like a pool full of algae that needs chlorine. Hey, that’s a Dad problem! Anyway, here’s how I made them.
INGREDIENTS
- 1x 3.4 oz box Jell-O Instant vanilla pudding
- 2 cups milk
- 4-8 Peeps Minis
- blue food dye
INSTRUCTIONS
Place the pudding mix and the milk in a bowl and start to whisk.
Add in blue food dye. The color wasn’t much different between 8, 10 and 12 drops so use however many you want, it isn’t going to turn out blue anyway.
Whisk well until evenly blended.
Distribute pudding into 2-4 small glass dishes.
Place 1-2 Peeps Minis on top of each bowl.
Serve.

Pistachio for those who want no colors or dyes perhaps.
