My advice to my guy friends has always been, it's great to read the books that our tailored to dad's like the ones they have for women (ie what to expect when your expecting) There are really to great books out there one is I’m going to Be a Dad: Now What? by Craig Bair covers stuff from pregnancy the first half of the book and the basics (sleep, diapers, feedings and the like) for infants up to 2 years the other. The 2nd is by John Pfeiffer’s You’re Going to Be a Dad! (Adams Media! (Adams Media) it's funny and frank detail of all the ins and outs of pregnancy from OB/GYN visits to advice on naming, all written for the dad-to-be. There are plenty of other's out there, these are two my boyfriend had got we were trying and got pregnant (sadly, i miscarried). Though there are these books and the internet and parents and friends giving you suggestions, i say your guy and heart will tell you what to do, nobody is born with the skills to be a parent or understand and go thru what their wife/girlfriend has to go thru. Just be there for mommy and also take care of yourself and try not to be stressed, once baby is born and it's been a few weeks, it will come to you naturally. Also love and enjoy that bundle of joy, not everyone get's the opportunity to be a daddy. From what my guy friends say it's the best experience and they never knew they could love someone that much and life just changes and is full of all kinds of crazy and fun experiences. I also think baby showers that are done to include the dad are awesome, just because mommy is caring the baby doesn't mean dad should be forgotten and she be able to be a part of the adventure right along next to the woman carrying his child.

For both parents, before your first child is born, get some practical experience. Help out with a relative or friend's child: learn how to sooth baby, change diapers, find the most essential baby equipment, etc.
