A few days ago I attended the taping of the Hub’s First Annual Hub Halloween Bash in Los Angeles. Kenan Thompson hosted.
The audience was treated to a performance by Cody Simpson.
As the night progressed and we saw some of the costumes, I remembered a Halloween from my own distant past.
I’ll never forget my October, 1977, phone call from my pre-school son’s teacher. Describe her as caring, concerned but overwrought because my four year old stood firm that he had seen real dinosaurs. (This was years before Jurassic Park.) Being an experienced teacher myself, I read in her words that he was a troubled child.
I could not stifle a chuckle. I could not resist the immediate reply, “Well, he did.” Her silence said more than the thoughts she dared not to express. Thinking the two of us were delusional and mentally stable was wrong, wrong, wrong. My little boy was neither lying nor imagining. Simply, truth is often stranger than fiction.
Now let me clue you as I then did for her into the entire story. Hubby, JP, and I had motored to Montreal, Canada the past week for a “can’t believe that happened” holiday. Routed through the Adirondack Mountains, a popular seasonal tourist locale, the three of us visited the North Pole, visited a house that defied gravity, then walked along a dinosaur world trail decorated with life-size now extinct dinos so how could I be surprised when he decided to share his adventure during Show & Tell?
So what are you going to say now when I tell you I saw a one and a half story gorilla, an invisible, as well as a couple of t-rexes all in the same place on the same night? Be smart and reply, “Bet you attended the live filming of the Hub Halloween Bash.” Right on! Right on!

I can’t believe how much artistry, creativity, and originality every one for the fifty semi-finalists put into their ultimate creations. Executive producer Bob Bain has given the public the first national Halloween spectacular ever. This is a signature costume competition appropriately themed for the fall season.
The judges – Hal Sparks, Martha Stewart, Coco Jones – had no easy job, but stepped up to the task.

The Hub Network, a destination for kids and their families, awarded “The Jackie” for the best Halloween costume of the year to Bill Freitag from Arizona, who won “Best in Bash” National Champion for his costume as “Invisible Cowboy” in the “Blast from the Past” category at the first-ever 50 State Halloween costume competition celebrated during the star-studded taping of the “Hub Network’s First Annual Halloween Bash,” this past Sunday at Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, Calif. The inaugural event, hosted by “Saturday Night Live” star Kenan Thompson, will be broadcast Saturday, October 26, 8–10 p.m. ET/5–7 p.m. PT on the Hub Network.

Looks like fun! I love the headless woman and the invisible man costumes, those are great! Must have been an amazing experience to go to this event. We love Halloween!
