Patriotic Sheet Cake is a colorful red, white and blue cake made from common pantry ingredients, making it the perfect dessert for patriotic celebrations.

Patriotic Sheet Cake
Sometimes we need to pull a certain type of dish together in a bit of a hurry. Under “normal” circumstances, perhaps unexpected guests appear on your doorstep. Under current corona quarantine circumstances, maybe you just have immediate family and you’d like to have a little celebration and can’t order something to be made because they aren’t open. Or, maybe you want something that looks nice but doesn’t break the budget. These are occasions where the Patriotic Sheet Cake shines. Here’s how you make it.
Equipment Needed
- 9×13 cake pan
- measuring cup
- large mixing bowl
- hand mixer OR stand mixer
- 1 large piping bag
- star decorating tip
- 2 shallow bowls

Ingredients
Cake Ingredients
- 1x box red velvet cake mix
- 1 cup water
- 1/3 cup canola oil
- 3 large eggs
Vanilla Frosting Ingredients
- ½ cup unsalted sweet cream butter, softened
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 3-5 tbsp heavy whipping cream
- red and blue gel food coloring
- red, white and blue sprinkles

Instructions
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
Grease a 9×13 cake pan and set aside.
Place the cake mix, water, eggs and oil into a large glass mixing bowl and mix until combined.
Pour the batter into the pan and cook in the oven for 24-30 minutes or when a toothpick comes out clean.
Once the cake is finished baking, set it aside to cool completely.
While the cake is cooling you can prepare the frosting.
Place the butter, powdered sugar, vanilla, heavy whipping cream into a stand mixer or large glass bowl and mix until combined. The frosting should be smooth and stiff with peaks.
Scoop ½ cup of frosting into each of the two bowls .
Spread the remaining white frosting evenly onto the cooled cake.
Mix a few drops of red gel into one bowl and a few drops of blue gel into the other bowl.
Scoop the red frosting onto one side of the piping bag and scoop the blue frosting onto the other side of the piping bag.
Pipe dollops onto the top of the white frosting.
Scatter red, white and blue sprinkles across the top as liberally as you like.
Serve and enjoy!
