I’ve had a couple of blenders over the years, most of them inexpensive. The inexpensive models I had did get the job done (meaning they blended) but were limited in their capabilities. The one expensive blender that I’ve ever had sold for over $600. It was truly a piece of junk and broke within a week of getting it. That made me shy away from ever contemplating getting a super expensive blender again. Sure, I see them on the tv, internet and social media. But quite frankly I don’t know what in the world I’d be blending that would require a blender that costs as much as a month’s rent or mortgage.

If you’ve read my blog for a while then you probably recall I reviewed a Ninja 3-in-1 Cooking System, which I fell madly in love with and still use all of the time. It helped me understand and appreciate why people rave about the Ninja brand. It works and it works really well. It caused me to want the Ninja Professional Frying System, which is still occupying a top spot on my kitchen wishlist. Anyway. When offered the opportunity to check out the Ninja Ultima Blender I gladly accepted.

The Ninja Ultima is very handsome and modern looking. The black and stainless blend in perfectly with my kitchen. It is very, very tall, and barely fits uon my kitchen counter under the cabinets.

The Ninja Ultima has a 2.5 peak horsepower motor that can handle the work of many small appliances including a hand mixer, food processor, stick blender, ice crusher, meat grinder, cheese grater and grain mill, just to name a few. The Ultima makes use of two blade systems to get the job done. The Total Crushing® Blades that rotate at 5,000 RPM at freeload crush whole fruits, vegetables, seeds & ice. The bottom High Speed Cyclonic Blades rotate independently at 24,000 RPM at freeload to liquefy ingredients into a silky smooth consistency in a matter of seconds. All of the pieces are dishwasher safe.

To use the Ninja Ultima just press start and select the speed you want on the dial. Or, press pulse. No matter which you choose be warned, the Ninja is loud. For each shake and smoothie I made I was pleased to find that there were no chunks of fruit in the blender after I used it. The blades are very, very sharp (note the band-aid) and get the job done.

The Ninja Ultima’s 72 oz stain-resistant, BPA-free pitcher has a built-in pour spout. I love the size of this pitcher. Not only is the pitcher huge, it’s got a very wide mouth, making it super easy to add ingredients as well as scrape the sides down.

Along with the 72 oz blender itself, the Ninja Ultima BL830 comes with three 16 oz. Nutri Ninja™ Cups and three Sip and Seal™ Lids. Making shakes or smoothies in this blender will leave you feeling like you’ve just gotten a shake or smoothie in a restaurant. And if you like to treat yourself, this is perfect too! I am not one to hide the fact that I make myself a shake on most days of the week. I love ice cream shakes! I had been making them in a personal size blender, which unfortunately wasn’t very well made and needed to be replaced a couple of times. I love the personal size shake cups, they’re just right for me! Put a lid on and they’re perfect for having at your desk, or even with you in the car.

If you’re looking for a heavy-duty blender that will get the job done without missing a month’s rent, this is what you want to look at.

I decided to try my hand at making some homemade applesauce. We often have apples in our house. But there have been a couple of times where I forgot to pick applesauce up for a dinner and had to do without. With the Ninja Ultima I can whip up my own applesauce in no time at all, which I love because it’s fresh and has the exact taste and consistency that I want. Here’s how I made the applesauce.

INGREDIENTS

• 4 Red Delicious apples – peeled, cored and cut
• 1/4 cup light brown sugar
• 1 tbsp cinnamon
• 1 cup water (3/4 for thicker)

INSTRUCTIONS

Cook apples on the stove for 15 minutes.

Place the apples into the blender, along with the water, sugar and cinnamon.

Blend for 2 minutes.

Chill and serve.

The Ninja Ultima makes awesome shakes and smoothies, and applesauce. I really want to try mashing potatoes in the Ninja. Hmmm.
