Listerine – An Important Step To Help Keep Your Mouth Healthy

We'd love it if you shared it!

Listerine

I have been to the dentist three times in the last three weeks. The first time was for a cleaning. the second and third times were for scaling and root planing, which is a form of non-surgical periodontal therapy for gum disease. For this procedure, basically the dentist numbs half of your mouth and then dives in to remove tartar and plaque from pockets around your teeth. I personally don’t find it to be a good time. I had this treatment many years ago. When I went this time I was told that I need to be very vigilant about having my teeth professionally cleaned every three to four months in order to hopefully not have to have this work again in the future.

According to the folks at Listerine, more than 75% of American adults suffer from some form of periodontal (gum) disease and may not even know it. Wow, that’s a lot of people! Brushing alone doesn’t cover about 75% of your mouth. That’s a large area, and germs and bacteria run amuck there. Basically they move in and get comfortable. The dentist confirmed that along with brushing and flossing, using an antiseptic mouthwash is very helpful in battling gum disease and keeping your mouth healthy.

Listerine has some new products for your oral care regiment that can help.

I’ve tried the Listerine Ultraclean Antiseptic Mouthwash and the Listerine Whitening Original Gel Toothpaste. I prefer gel toothpaste and found this to have a good flavor. having just had a cleaning at the dentist, I’d like to keep the “clean” feeling in my mouth for as long as possible so am happy to be using the Ultraclean Mouthwash. I also received the opportunity to try Listerine Pocketpaks, which are strips that dissolve in your mouth. These strips freshen your breath and kill the germs that cause bad breath. These are great to keep in your purse for after a meal or snack, or just to freshen up stale breath before a meeting. I tried the Fresh Burst flavor, they’re also available in Cool Mont, Artic Berry and Cool Heat.

Cleaning done, scaling and planing done. Next I have a followup with the periodontist, then they'll do the crown on the tooth where there's a crack.
