These were chocolate chip pancakes I ordered from room service at the hotel in LA. They were very tasty but the chocolate chips were on the outside. I’ve seen other restaurants do the same and just don’t get it. Don’t the chocolate chips belong INside the pancakes? I’d love to hear your thoughts on this.

Wow, that looks good! However I have to agree with you . . . chocolate chips are better INSIDE the pancakes. Like "Katy M" said, it's good to taste the warm chocolate chips when you take a bit of the pancakes. =)

Inside. No question. I love how they melt and swirl in the batter. Plus a slightly burned chip that touches the griddle is a pretty amazinigly tasty bite!
You've made me so hungry!

My husband works for a food manufacturing company; based on what I've learned, the hotel's restaurant probably buys pre-mixed pancake batter, so if you order chocolate chip pancakes, they don't have batter with chips already mixed in. I suppose they could pour some in a bowl and stir in the chips. To me, it's not chocolate chip pancakes if the chips are just on top!

I understand that but honestly would think they could just stir them in.

Inside! They get all warm and tasty! Maybe a few on the outside for presentation, but really... inside ;)

The chocolate chips should definitely be inside the pancakes. They are just being lazy. They are making plain pancakes and then putting stuff on top. That way they can be chocolate chip pancakes, blueberry pancakes, pecan pancakes...whatever they need them to be. But it's just not right!
