We'd love it if you shared it!

Did you know that Hostess CupCake has been America’s Favorite Cupcake for 90 years? This year marks the 90th birthday of the chocolate cupcake with the the vanilla crème filling and the squiggle on top. The very first Hostess CupCake was baked in 1919. Obviously it was a hit because it’s still around today. It didn’t look or taste the same back then. The Hostess Cupcake as we know it today didn’t come to be until 1950 when baking executive D.R. “Doc” Rice added the squiggles and vanilla crème filling. They have become the best selling snack cakes in history. A huge number that makes sense when you keep in mind the fact that Americans eat more than 600 million of them every year. Residents of Memphis, Tennessee eat the most Hostess Cupcakes per capita of any city across the country followed by St. Louis, Cincinnati, Las Vegas and Louisville.

I hadn’t realized that Hostess offers different versions of their CupCake. In 1999 they introduced the variety called the Golden CupCake. They also offer seasonal themes such as their springtime “Baseballs”, cupcakes with vanilla icing and red-swirl “stitching.”
