Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy,” which first appeared in comic books in Marvel Super-Heroes, Issue #18 (Jan. 1969), stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, featuring Vin Diesel as Groot, Bradley Cooper as Rocket, Lee Pace, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, with John C. Reilly, Glenn Close as Nova Prime Rael and Benicio Del Toro as The Collector.

I am always a bit hesitant about watching “superhero” type movies. I was never into comic books so I always end up wondering if the movie will stink. I am pleased to say that Guardians of the Galaxy does not stink. It was great!

Peter Quill is a human man that was taken by aliens at a very young age. He is on a mission to gather up an object called the Orb. As it turns out, the Orb is very powerful. Many people want it and try to get it, most notable the villain Ronan. A bounty is placed on Quill’s head. While on his quest to deliver the Orb and stay alive Quill encounters some other interesting and somewhat shady characters – Rocket, Groot, Gamorra and Drax. Rocket is a genetically engineered racoon that is quick thinking and enjoys mischief. Rocket’s steadfast companion is Groot, a giant tree-like being who can only say “I am Groot.” Gamorra, a trained female assassin with green-skin, seems to be on the side of Quill’s enemy but it turns out she has her own agenda. Drax is a male whose only mission in life is to exact revenge on Ronan, the man who murdered his family. Together this motley crew of rag tags makes up the Guardians of the Galaxy. I found all of the characters to be very well written. I liked the way they all bonded and eventually came to interact and appreciate each other. There’s lots of humor throughout the movie.

The CGI, graphics, animation and color were all outstanding. The music brought me back to the time when I was a young child. Each time a song came on I exclaimed to hubby “I remember that song” and “I loved that song”! The storyline was fun and kept moving forward. I enjoyed the movie more then I expected to and recommend it as interesting, colorful and just plain fun.
