Dating – Then And Now

We'd love it if you shared it!

My Mom stopped by today and we got to talking about jewelry. She’d asked me if I had thought of getting rid of any of my old jewelry, specifically selling it. I told her that I wasn’t planning on parting with anything that I had now. I recently (last week) went through my jewelry box and got rid of the junk, you see. I kept only the “good” jewelry or the stuff that I was sentimental about. I had earrings that I got when I was a teenager finding boys the old fashioned way. No, not that way, you’ve got a dirty mid! I mean by flirting. I’m old after all, I was on the singles dating scene long before there were online dating sites. I’m so old that once upon a time I found big chunky, plastic earrings the size of my head fashionable. No matter they turned my ears green… I even had a pair of metal earrings that my Mom called my ginsu knives because they looked a lot like the ginsu knives that were really popular at the time. At the time I thought they were so cool. Last week when I threw them away I thought they were so funny! And green and rusty, hope the ginsu knives fared better with time then the earrings did.
Online Dating Mice Heart
Anyway. Back in the day, dating was very much a contact sport. Finding a compatible date was a lot like fishing – keep some, throw some back. You saw someone. You figured out how to get up the nerve or the opportunity to talk to them. If that went well, maybe ask for their number or ask them out. First dates were awkward, no chatting online for hours or days before meeting back then, just real life face to face conversation. Maybe some holding hands, but even that didn’t happen until a couple of dates later in my experience. I had to really like someone to hold their hand, after all.
Holding Hands
I have never tried online dating myself, but wonder how it compares to the in person thing. Aside from the sweaty palms. If you know a lot about a person before meeting, do you have more or less to talk about on your actual first date? For those of you that have tried online dating, I’m curious to know – what made you decide to try that over in person dating, and did you like it better then real life dating or not as much?
