There are a growing number of people that look for specific things in the food that they eat. One hot topic at the moment is what an animal is fed before it becomes our food. A response to concerns such as these includes ButcherBox.
Mike Salguero founded ButcherBox, which is a monthly delivery service for all natural 100% grass fed beef. He formed the company after discovering he preferred the taste and appreciated health benefits that meat afforded. He researched and found that many people just don’t have access to grass fed beef. In fact, he found that less than 1% of the total beef consumed in the United States is 100% grass fed. Part of the reason for this is because most 100% grass-fed farms lack the resources necessary to advertise and distribute their beef. As a result of this, it isn’t possible fo most people to get 100% grass-fed beef. And, the few who can are often confused with supermarket labels or limited to just ground beef. Just because a label says grass-fed doesn’t mean it’s 100% grass-fed beef. After all, all cattle are grass-fed to start. For some folks, knowing where your beef comes from is no longer a ‘nice to know’, it’s a ‘need to know’.
Here’s a brief video about ButcherBox, released when the venture was just in its Kickstarter stage.
Salguero founded ButcherBox with the vision of giving all Americans access to grass fed beef. And, to meet the demands of today’s busy lifestyle, he wanted the beef to be available through one convenient experience. ButcherBox got it’s start through a Kickstarter program. They ended up beating their goal by 840%, raising over $210,000 in 30 days! Already getting great media coverage from outlets such as Today Show, Boston Herald, Inc, and Food Navigator, ButcherBox now has it’s website up and running and available for folks like you and I to order.
ButcherBox has spent a lot of time identifying and partnering with the best sources for 100% grass-fed beef, in order to give the consumer the best product possible. With a ButcherBox subscription, you receive 15-20 meals worth of meat in each box. The box, which costs $129 per month, is delivered to your door every month. Shipping is included in the price of the subscription fee. That averages out to about $7 per meal. Each box comes with a highly curated selection of 100% grass-fed beef cuts. For example, a box might come with top sirloin cuts, short ribs, ground beef, and sirloin tips. And, the box comes with more than just great meat. It also includes step-by-step recipe cards, so that the recipient has everything they’ll need to make a delicious meal that highlights the flavor of the beef. You are able to add certain additional cuts to your box, such as burgers, for an additional fee.

I received samples of some ButcherBox meats. All of the meat came in a styrofoam cooler. Everything inside was packed very well. Meats were in vacuum packed packages, which in turn were inside clearly labeled boxes. We tried almost all of the beef within a week. I made sirloin tips with peppers and onions, slowcooked meatballs, one-pot beef spaghetti, and beef stroganoff. Hubby enjoyed every meal, but his hands down favorite was the beef sirloin tips with peppers and onions. Here’s how I made it.
Beef Sirloin Tips With Peppers And Onions
Ingredients
- 16 oz beef sirloin tips
- 2 peppers
- 1/2 small onion
- garlic powder
- salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
Place the sirloin tips into a pan with a little olive oil.
Sprinkle the garlic powder onto the meat, then brown the meat over a medium low heat.

About 5 minutes before the meat is ready, add the peppers and onions.
When your meat is cooked, serve immediately with salt and pepper to taste. The dish works well over white rice.

ButcherBox is a product you will want to look into if you are looking for grass-fed beef. You can change, pause or cancel your subscription at any time. Moving forward, ButcherBox hopes to offer more types of meat, such as chicken and pork.
What’s your favorite cut of beef?

I was just wondering what I was going to do with the strip steaks I have in my freezers. After I go buy some peppers and onions I can't wait to make your recipe.
