The Benidorm Vibe

I love to travel, even though I hardly ever get to do so. I am fascinated by different places. Take Benidorm, for example. The New Jersey town I live in had just over 75,000 residents when the 2010 census was taken. It’s the third largest town in our county. And yet I don’t consider it anything like a city. Benidorm is a town in Spain. It had just over 71,000 residents when the 2010 census was taken. See the tall buildings in the photo of Benidorm above from Wiki? Would you be surprised to know that Benidorm has the most high-rise buildings per capita in the world? I was. I’ve always equated buildings like that with a city, not a town the size of the one I live in. There’s quite a bit going on there, as you will see in this article shared with me by Betty.
The Benidorm Vibe
Sitting on the coast of Spain’s Costa Blanca, Benidorm is a Spanish seaside town with superb hotels and fantastic package holidays year-round. There are so many places to eat and drink, along with Blue Flag sandy beaches and even sunshine during the winter months. It’s easy to reach by air. Once you’ve arrived, you can traverse the town on foot, and if you’re going further afield there’s also a local bus service.
Along with the year-round sunshine, parties and fiestas take place all year round in Benidorm.
Benidorm International Song Festival
Probably Benidorm’s most famous event, the Benidorm International Song Festival takes place annually each summer, and has been running since 1959. With a local reputation to rival Eurovision, the competition is designed to promote Spanish music, and usually takes place in mid-August, with many activities and open-air concerts taking place in Aigüera Park.
‘Fiestas Patronales’
Benidorm’s two patron saints, the Virgen del Sufragio and San Jaime apostle, are honored with a huge annual “Fiestas Patronales,” lasting over several days in November. In 2014, the fiestas get under way on Friday, 7th November and comes to their end on Wednesday, 12th November. The festivities take over the Benidorm streets, with open-air theatre, firework displays, religious displays and musicians. There’s even a “British Fancy Dress” day!
Party, Party, Party
If you’re looking to live on the wild side, Benidorm has even more to offer. ElectroWeekend, which came and went in April 2014, is scheduled again for 2015. This is an electronic music festival with open air stages and all-night parties. For something more mellow, the Low Festival is an international indie and rock festival, with 2014 bands including Editors, The Hives, and Massive Attack among other fantastic acts, and some surprises! Low Festival takes place from 25th until 27th July 2014. Later in the summer, there’s Electrobeach 2014 on 1st and 2nd August, and Benidorm Pride from 12th to 14th September.
Bringing the summer to a close and ushering in the autumn, there’s the second edition of the Iberia Festival in Benidorm on 19th and 20th September. It brings together eight Spanish rock and pop acts. Last year was a great success, and 2014 will be even better!
Benidorm is a brilliant destination for package holidays and bespoke holidays alike, bustling with events, festivals and parties no matter when you choose to visit.
