Swaddling your baby when you bring them home is not always as easy as when the nurse showed you. I always had an issue trying to keep mine all tucked in. Not to mention a receiving blanket isn’t very thick and if your baby has been born in the dead of winter, you need the warmth.
About the Baby Ota
The Baby Ota started in the Czech Republic, where hearty women had to protect their not so hearty babies from the frigid winters and hot summers. In order to keep babies warm, dry and safe, they invented the zavinovacka (zah-veen-oh-vach-ka), or “wrap-me blanket.” Unlike other swaddling blankets or receiving blankets, the zavinovacka was padded, sturdy and designed to last. Over time, zavinovacka grew more ornate, and friends and family started making them as heirlooms for expectant mothers. When the child was born, mom and dad would take the newborn around the village and introduce it to neighbors in the ornate zavinovacka.
Now, Ivana Otahalova, Baby Ota’s founder, has brought the tradition to the US, to the relief of moms everywhere. The Baby Ota’s modern take on the zavinovacka uses a patent-pending Three Bow comfort tie that allow parents to keep babies comfy and secure while also adjusting for size and activity level.
The Baby Ota is very soft and is made of 70% Bamboo Viscose and 30% Cotton. It is Hypoallergenic, dust mite resistant and Thermal-regulating (I LOVE this concept). The Ota is also odor-resistant, moisture-wicking which makes it so soft against your baby’s skin.

Swaddling, a custom, existing from the birth of Christ, seems so confining. I still wonder at the reason for its use in the modern world.

That's absolutely gorgeous. I love that it's moisture wicking. That's really important to keep away wetness.
