My son loves to hang out with his friends. There have been occasions, usually on a weekend, where you may see me tweeting that the wolves were in the house. This refers to my son and his friends. They eat like, well, like a pack of hungry wolves. They cook in the middle of the night. They sometimes leave me piles of dishes and pots and pans. And you know what? I should be grateful. Not grateful that they left me the mess, but grateful that we have food that they can eat. Not everyone does. 22% of kids under the age of 1 are currently living in poverty. There are actually children in our country going hungry right now. In 2011 over sixteen million children lived in food insecure households in America. That absolutely breaks my heart.

I am a great believer that one person can make a difference. Big business can also make a difference. Put the two together and that’s astep closer to solving the problem. Right now you can make a difference in the fight against childhood hunger. How, you ask? It’s simple. By buying a bag of Tyson Chicken Nuggets at Sam’s Club. Buying one bag of food you may already eat is enough to make you one of the #HungerHeroes.

For every bag of Tyson Chicken Nuggets that is sold, Tyson will donate a meal (consisting of 4 oz of protein) to a hungry child through Champions for Kids. They will donate up to 308,000 meals. That’s a lot of food, and definitely a step in the right direction for solving such a horrible problem.

It’s so easy to be one of the #HungerHeroes. All you need to do is attend one of the nationwide Tyson Chicken Nuggets Demos at a Sam’s Club near you on August 30 or August 31 from 11-2. These demos were also held this past weekend, on August 24 and August 25. I attended one and picked up a couple of bags of nuggets, along with some coloring sheets, a badge for my youngest hunder hero and some information on the program.

The resealable bag keeps nicely in the freezer. We almost always have chicken nuggets or tenders in the freezer. The kids love to dunk them in bbq sauce and hot sauce and whatever else they can find. For under $10 I was buying something the kids love to eat and something that would also help feed some hungry children.

For kicks we decided to make something quick and easy and different. We made a chicken nugget shepherds pie. It was super easy to make.

Place 12 chicken nuggets in a square glass baking dish.

Next, place 20 oz of pre-made mashed potatoes on top of the chicken nuggets, with a little bacon sprinkled in them.

Third, sprinkle some shredded cheese over top of the dish.

Finally, microwave the whole dish for 4 minutes. and then serve. It’s quick, easy, filling and tasty.

You can see photos from my demo and my visit to Sam’s Club in my Google + album.

It’s a good feeling to help others. Why not stop in Sam’s Club this weekend and grab a bag of Tyson Chicken Nuggets and be a Hunger Hero!

I love that Tyson is doing this. SO many big companies become so big they don't realize that others are struggling. I will make my way to check out demo at Sam's Club. Thanks so much!

I love this recipe! I never make shephards pie because my kids don't like ground beef. I never though of using chicken!
