No child should be hungry. Not for food, not for happiness, not for anything. If you’re in Philly or the surrounding area there’s an event going on this Thursday, August 14 to raise awareness about child hunger that I wanted you to know about. Here’s information on the event. This is a fun opportunity for people in the area to make a real difference right within their own community!

Summer continues to be a vulnerable time for those who rely on school breakfast and lunch during the school year. In Pennsylvania, only 18.7 percent of school children who rely on free or reduced-price school lunches during the school year currently participate in summer meal programs. The Arby’s Foundation, the charitable arm of Arby’s Restaurant Group, Inc., in partnership with Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry® campaign, is committed to helping kids get the food they need.

The Hungry for Happiness mobile tour will visit Philadelphia this week to help raise awareness about the issue of childhood hunger and increase participation in free summer meals sites for kids located in the area. The Hungry for Happiness mobile tour is stopping at the Norwood Arby’s to raise money for Loaves and Fishes. Twenty percent of sales during the party will go directly to Loaves and Fishes, a local food bank that supplies food to those in need. The event will have fun summer activities for kids such as hula-hoop contests, tug of war, bean bag toss, basketball and other family-friendly games to get kids moving.

When: Thursday, August 14 from 5pm to 8 pm
Where: Arby’s #5424 (618 Chester Pike, Norwood, PA 19074)

I love to see companies working to make a difference. To celebrate this fantastic campaign I’ve got a great giveaway for you!

I can't say I've ever been to a food bank.

Yes, I have to utilize them and also to donate. Some Food Banks treat people with dignity. Some others do not. Some Food Banks make sure the food is fresh and safe, and others will give spoiled milk to a pregnant woman risking making her sick and killing her baby. Some Food Banks disinfect their facilities, some do not. Most food banks are very restrictive and you can only get food for maybe 1, 2, and no more than 4 days and then you cannot get help again for 6 months to a year, which makes it difficult if you are looking for work, and will have to wait 3 weeks for your first paycheck. Most people don't go to Food Banks unless they really need the help. But I have witnessed people abusing the food banks too, depriving those who truly need help from the supplies that run out way too fast.
