REVIEW – Cuisine Solutions Frozen Packaged Foods @SousVideCuisine

I recently learned about a company called Cuisine Solutions. to quote their website, “Cuisine Solutions offers sous-vide for businesses across multiple industries. Learn what we can offer your business with our wholesale food products menu or menu development.”

So what in the heck is sous-vide? You don’t know? Don’t feel bad, I didn’t either. According to Wiki, it’s “a method of cooking food sealed in airtight plastic bags in a water bath for longer than normal cooking times—72 hours in some cases—at an accurately regulated temperature much lower than normally used for cooking, typically around 55 °C (131 °F) to 60 °C (140 °F) for meats and higher for vegetables. The intention is to cook the item evenly, and not to overcook the outside while still keeping the inside at the same “doneness”, keeping the food juicier.”

So. Now you know that, basically, Cuisine solutions makes precooked frozen meals and food products. They service a number of industries including food service, military, national restaurant chains, on-board services, and retail to consumers like you and I. I definitely appreciate convenience. You can almost always find a couple of frozen entrees in my freezer, for those nights where someone needs a meal in a hurry.

I received samples of the Chicken Florentine. Each box contains two individually packaged chicken breasts stuffed with a blend of spinach and two cheeses.

Cooking the chicken is easy. I microwaved mine and it was done in 3.5 minutes. You can heat it in the oven, but that takes over 30 minutes. I like frozen foods for convenience, so if I’m cooking for that long I’m cooking from scratch. The chicken turned out very moist, to the point that you could actually cut it with your fork. Hubby loved the flavor of the spinach and cheese stuffing inside, he said it was creamy and flavorful.

I also received samples of the Chicken Margherita, which is chicken breast in a red sauce made with tomato, basil and parmesan. This also had two individually packaged breasts.

Of note is the fact that when I looked at the nutrition labels for both products I noticed that neither contained transfats. I was also able to identity, read and pronounce every single ingredient listed. At approximately $9 per box the Cuisine Solutions foods that we tried are a bit more money then we generally spend on a frozen product that will only feed one person. They are definitely very tasty and flavorful though, so if you like to keep some frozen foods on hand and price isn’t an issue be sure to check these out.
