Zumo Learning System

I love technology. I remember when there were no home computers, and I love the capabilities they have given us. I am often amazed at how the personal computer has evolved, not only in size but in power and capability. Tech has expanded to include things like mobile phones, laptops, readers, watches and even toys. As a person that has always appreciated things that encourage learning, I love seeing interactive educational toys. Zyrobotics’ Zumo Learning System is an innovative system just entering the market that will provide fun and educational reinforcement during the early years while also preparing the child for a future career in a STEM field.

STEM stands for science, technology, engineering and mathematics.  Those are important subjects, but not necessarily ones that make 4 year olds jump up and down about learning. So how do you help garner and hold interest in important subjects such as these? By making the learning fun. By integrating valuable content into tablet based technology that children are already familiar with, Zumo enables children as young as three to start learning about STEM topics while enjoying themselves.

So what exactly is the Zumo Learning System?

At first glance, Zumo looks like a really cute plush green turtle. Which it is. But the turtle is the key to a whole lot more than unlocking a smile. It’s also the key to unlocking a lifetime of knowledge, and maybe even leading to a career. When children touch the plush toy turtle’s shell, math, science and reading games come alive on the connected tablet. Using proven educational multisensory techniques, kids can step with their feet or press with their fingers to interact with Zumo Turtle, tablet apps and games. Zumo quickly becomes their best friend, playmate and teacher.

Zumo Learning System

Zumo Learning System is designed for ages 3 to 7. The complete Zumo Learning System includes a seven-inch dedicated tablet, a wireless smart toy named Zumo and a suite of eight tactile-based learning apps focused on STEM and other key subjects. Unlike other “tech toys”, Zumo stands on its own, leaving your iPad free for other members of the family to use. It has been awarded the 2016 Seal of Excellence and Kid’s Product of the Year Award in the educational systems category by Creative Child Magazine. Zumo is part of the Zyrobotics family, whose mission is to enable freedom and promote the stimulation of social, cognitive, and motor skills development in a child.

Zumo Learning System

“We developed Zumo after years of research into understanding how to make learning accessible for young children,” said J. MacCalla, Ph.D., CEO of Zyrobotics, creator of the Zumo Learning System. “Zumo Turtle incorporates game-based learning techniques with physical movement to give children a fun, engaging and immersive way to embrace and enjoy STEM and other subjects. As STEM continues to gain importance, learning math and science early can provide a head start for children in school and help prepare them for future careers in STEM fields. With math in particular, tactile-based learning helps children more easily grasp abstract concepts.”

I can see where a system like this could really grab, and hold, a young child’s attention. The mode of play (the turtle) is attractive. The content is designed to be fun while remaining important and relevant. It would work especially well over summer vacations and winter breaks, as these are times where many children aren’t thrilled to sit down and focus on schoolwork because they’d rather be having fun playing a game. It would also be helpful for preschool children, to give them a headstart and encourage a love for learning.

And how do you buy the Zumo Learning System?

The Zumo Learning System is sold on Amazon and directly at www.zumolearning.com. Now through October 31, 2016, Zumo is available for the back-to-school promotional price of $159.99. The system is regularly priced at $299.00, giving you a savings of $139.01 if you purchase now. Shipping charges also apply. STEM is impoprtant in a rapidly expanding world BUT never forget that it cannot work without the ability to read and communicate (AKA language proficiency).
