RB and I have spent the day together in the living room watching DVDs. The last movie we watched was Yes Man, starring Jim Carrey. I’d seen previews when it came out in the theater but hadn’t had a chance to see it.
YES MAN – OWN IT ON BLU-RAY, DVD AND ON DEMAND – AVAILABLE APRIL 7, 2009
In this PG13 comedy Jim Carrey portrays Carl Allen, a depressed, lonely man who’s never gotten over his wife Stephanie leaving him and who has no life. His days consist of going to work at a loan officer at a bank and watching videos. He says no to literally everything including answering phone calls from his best friend Peter (portrayed by Bradley Cooper). He runs into an old friend Nick (portrayed by John Michael Higgins), who tells him how much his life has changed since he went to a YES seminar. Carl goes to the seminar and, after finding that the leader has accurately described his life, decides to give the program a try.

Put on the spot, Carl is forced into giving a homeless man a ride, which leads to a series of events that lead to him meeting a younger woman named Allison (portrayed by Zooey Deschanel). He also becomes friendly with his “nerdy” boss Norm (portrayed by Rhys Darby). After that Carl starts saying yes to everything and really living his life, which affects both his personal outlook as well as his social and work life.
I enjoyed the movie. My favorite scenes were when he tests his new Tempurpedic bed, when he rides his friend’s motorcycle and what happens after he gathers a huge amount of clothes to donate to the needy.
