Recently I had some frozen white cheddar mac and cheese. To make the meal go farther I decided to add some meat. Hubby loved the resulting dish, which I then decided to make from scratch. We love the white cheddar mac and cheese plain, and sometimes don’t even bake it. But since I was adding a precooked sausage , I wanted to bake to heat it all and make the flavors meld. Here’s how I did it.
White Cheddar Mac And Cheese With Sausage
Ingredients
- 1 lb medium shells pasta
- 8-13 oz Oscar Mayer Selects Italian Herb Sausage
- 8 oz shredded sharp white cheddar cheese (divided into 6 oz and 2 oz)
- 4 oz cream cheese
- 3 tbsp butter
- 1 3/4 cup milk
- salt and pepper to taste

Instructions
Preheat oven to 375 f.
Cook the pasta until al dente.
Add all ingredients except the meat and the 2 oz of cheese to the pasta and stir well.
Pour mac and cheese into a greased baking pan.
Slice the sausage and distribute it across the top of the cheese.
Bake for 20 minutes.
Serve immediately with salt and pepper to taste.

This is a different spin on Mac and Cheese. I cant eat this because of the sausage but its still a different aspect on a great dish we all love!

My husband and son love sausage, so they would totally devour this one. Sounds great!

I just made a mac n' cheese casserole for the kids the other day...they would have loved some sausage on there. Great idea!

My husband hates cream cheese, but I bet if I didn't tell him it was in this he wouldn't even noticed. He loves pasta with sausage.

It's pretty subtle but I bet you could use some sour cream instead, it would likely only change the flavor a tad.

I am a HUGE mac n' cheese lover! I think I subsided soley on mac n' cheese in my early 20's! lol Now that I have issues with dairy I have scaled back quite a bit but I make it from scratch at least twice a year, it looks yummy with the sausage on top.
