The Art of the Burger is much more than just a burger recipe book; it is inspiration and a creative jolt for those who want more: innovative patties, inventive bun choices, imaginative toppings, creative preparation, and of course, more flavor. You really want to know what’s in your burger? Then the only way is, to do it yourself.
With premium meat, crispy bacon, gently melting cheese, and hamburger buns that do not taste like cardboard—The Art of the Burger looks at the perfect burger. Fresh, creative, and distinct from the classics, this burger bible presents exciting ideas you’ll never find in a fast food restaurant. It contains recipes for twelve types of bread and buns, eleven types of sauces, and fifty burgers of all sorts—not just beef patties, though a quarter of them are beef-specific, but ones using pig, poultry, seafood, veggies, and others ingredients instead of, or in addition to, a standard patty. There are even a few desert “burgers.” Beautifully designed and packed full of tips and guidance to make the perfect burger here is the book for burger lovers everywhere.

We love burgers. I’m always open to tips on how to make burgers better, as well as new ideas and recipes, and new ways to cook them. I couldn’t resist accepting an offer to check out the new cookbook The Art Of The Burger.
Chapters include:
- Move In The Right Direction
- Buns
- Sauces
- Burger Navigator
- Burgers
- Recipe Directory
- Index Of Ingredients
This recipe is put together a bit differently than other cookbooks I’ve seen before. First of all, it includes recipes for everything. Where as some cookbooks might tell you to include a half cup of ketchup, this cookbook gives you a recipe for the ketchup. Burgers come on buns, this cookbook even gives recipes for those!
How to Use This Book is a listing of all of the symbols used in this cookbook and what they stand for. The Burger Navigator is an index of all recipes (with their main ingredients) and the page you can locate it on. I love this idea, but found it a bit awkward to work with as it isn’t in alphabetical order. Then come the recipes.
Most of the recipes in this book are easy to understand, with ingredients clearly listed and page of any other recipes you’ll need to make the burger as instructed listed as well.
Prep and cooking time isn’t included, which in the case of this cookbook I understand. Cooking time will always vary with burgers, depending on if you like yours rare and mooing back at you or charred looking like a charcoal briquet. Prep time isn’t as quick as you may be making other recipes for things required for your burger, such as the sauce or buns.
Most of the recipes have a full color page showing all of the ingredients, with photos of each ingredient stacked on top of one another like you stack a burger.
There are a few recipes included that are displayed differently, more like a collage.
What I found interesting in the case of both styles is that in most cases the finished burger is not shown in the photo. Displaying the ingredients is an interesting idea but I do wish they’d included a picture of the finished burger as well.
The Art Of The Burger is definitely an interesting cookbook, one that would be a great fit for anyone that enjoys burgers as well as entertaining.
What’s your favorite kind of burger?

I love a good burger, and this book sounds like it's full of them. I've got to add this to my cookbook collection.

This sounds like a fun book. I know any time I change up burgers by adding things like avocado, sprouts or a spicy topping my kids always love it. I should be more adventurous!
