Saving Money

We'd love it if you shared it!

Do you have some money saved? We don’t have anything substantial. We’re what my Mom calls working class poor, which basically means we’re just average working folk getting by week to week. I was recently offered some tips to saving money that I’m going to share with you. I’d like to hear what you think!
Saving money can be difficult, but you can do it regardless of your situation. Starting and maintaining a budget can lead to saving more money. If you already have a budget in place, here are some steps you can take to find even more money to put in your savings account.
Know Your Weaknesses
You can take small steps to improve your spending when you recognize where you are constantly going over budget. Maybe you’re shopping for housewares, buying expensive dinners or grabbing a high-price cup of coffee each morning. The steps to successfully improve these habits may differ for each person. Perhaps you set a goal to spend $10 less in your problem category each month. Once you’ve reached that goal, you can set the goal of spending $20 per month less. If you can’t easily identify your weakness, keep a spending journal for a couple of weeks so you can spot your overspending trends.
Combining Insurance Policies
Another place where savings may not be obvious at first is your insurance policy premiums. Most people have insurance for their car and their home, and many others may also have a life insurance policy. If you have these policies with more than one insurance company, you may be able to bring your monthly premiums down by simply using one insurance company for your auto, home and life insurance policies. To see if you can get significant savings by switching, speak to a local insurance agent about your options.
Reevaluate Your Budget Quarterly
Moving to a new location, starting a new job or getting married can significantly change your priorities. It’s important that your budget change with your priorities. Each fiscal quarter, take a look at your budget to see if you need to adjust any of your priority categories or save more by cutting your discretionary money. This kind of reevaluation will help you to meet your needs in terms of short-term and long-term savings.
While these are not the only things you can do to save more money in your monthly budget, these are some of the easiest ways to get started.

Do you have any money-saving tips to share?

We have a jar we throw coins into! I also save by cutting coupons, shopping sales paired with coupons. We pre-pay our propane in the summer when it is cheap, so we are not hit hard in the winter with expensive prices, etc.

We need to review our insurance again to see if there is an opportunity to save there. As for other ways to save, I would say that eating at home more helps.
