REVIEW – We Take The Cake Mail Order Gourmet Cakes

Recently I received an email offering me the chance to review a gourmet cake from We Take The Cake, a bakery in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Feeling the way I do about cake, I couldn’t say no.

ABOUT WE TAKE THE CAKE

To us, cake isn’t just a dessert. It’s a symbol of celebration, happiness, friends and family. That’s why we take so much care in creating the most splendid and delectable cakes and cupcakes… because we know what it means to you.
We’re a small team… But we kind of like it that way. It allows us to make sure that each cake is handmade, hand decorated and beautifully packaged. In fact, Oprah loved our Key Lime Bundt Cake so much that she named it one of Oprah’s Favorite Things! Soon after, We Take The Cake appeared on three different Food Network Shows (Challenge, Road Tasted and Unwrapped) and has since been featured in the following: Entrepreneur Magazine, CNN Money, InStyle Magazine, and the Miami Herald.
We’re quite proud of our achievements… And strive to make sure we keep up the good work year after year as we continue to craft each cake by hand using only the finest all-natural ingredients. We are proud to include among our customers nationally recognized caterers, party planners, private clubs, world-famous hotels and exclusive resorts. We are prouder still that those customers who first found us in 1997 continue to insist that we simply make the best cakes anywhere.

MY THOUGHTS
We Take The Cake makes lots of yummy looking desserts including bundt cakes, layer cakes and cupcakes that they’ll ship nationwide. They also make make wedding and custom cakes for people that live in the area of their store. I wanted to try something a little different so I chose to receive a Flourless Chocolate Cake from We Take The cake. They also offer a Gluten-Free Flourless Chocolate Cake, which I should have gotten so that my youngest could have some.
The cake arrived on dry ice. Inside that chest was a lovely box containing the cake. The box was packed lovely green cloth wrapping inside.

Inside the green wrap was the cake, wrapped in plastic.

The cake was beautifully decorated. It’s a 6 inch cake, when measured diagonally. The cake topping is a dark chocolate mousse with a chocolate ganache. According to the website, the cake weighs approx. 2.5 pounds and serves 6 to 8 people. I don’t know about that 6 to 8 people if they’re talking about my house.

So the cake, it tasted wonderful. Oh my goodness, I wanted to hide it after taking my first bite. The taste is very rich, you will need milk or coffee or something. But it’s really good, the texture kind of reminded us of fudge. The cake retails for $39.95.
The Flourless Chocolate Cake from We Take The Cake would be perfect for serving when entertaining. It would also be a great special occasion gift for any chocolate lover, or for yourself.  Everyone deserves a little treat now and again, don’t they? If the Flourless Chocolate Cake is any indicator of quality, the rest of their sweets are likely to be just as good. I personally have my eye on the Orange Crunch Bundt Cake…
