Sweet Italian Sausage is one of our favorite things, not only here at home but also in our area. Recently the folks at Premio Foods reached out and asked me to try their Italian Chicken Sausage, and I accepted. I’m very familiar with Premio, they are actually the brand I most frequently buy. That’s partly becuse it tastes good, and partly because it’s gluten-free which is what my son needs. Premio makes both pork and chicken sausage, and the brand is available throughout the USA in grocery stores and other locations, such as Wal-Mart and Costco.
I’ve bought Premio Sweet Italian Sausage many, many times over the years, but had never tried their new Chicken Sausage. The Chicken sausage looks pretty much just like the Sweet Italian Sausage. I pan fried the sausage and found it cooked as easily as the pork but was less fatty or oily, which is a good thing. I didn’t expect it to really taste like sausage (meaning pork sausage) but it wasn’t all that different, maybe a tiny bit milder. I’d definitely get this again in the future.
I was trying to decide what to make with the Chicken Sausage and threw together a Italian Chicken Sausage Rice Casserole. It was super easy to make, and very tasty.
- 1x 14 oz package Premio Chicken Sausage
- 2 cups Minute Rice (uncooked)
- 2x 10 3/4 oz cans cream of chicken soup
- 1x 14.5 oz can green beans
- 8 oz cream cheese (softened)
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 onion powder
- 2-4 oz shredded cheddar cheese (depending on how much cheese you like, I used 4 oz)
Preheat oven to 350.
Brown the sausage according to directions.
While sausage is cooking, combine rice, cream cheese, cream of chicken soup, garlic powder, onion powder and green beans in large bowl.
Mix well and place mixture into greased casserole dish.
When sausage is cooked, remove from stove. Do not drain any of the drippings.
Cut sausage into slices or chunks and spread those, along with any drippings, over the rice mixture.
Spread shredded cheddar over the top of dish.
Bake for 25 minutes.
