Littlest Pet Shop is an animated half-hour comedy series that follows Blythe Baxter and her father as they move into a Big City apartment above the Littlest Pet Shop store – an amazing day-camp for pets of all kinds including a doggie diva, dancing gecko, a sweet, adorable panda and others. Her real adventure begins when she discovers that she alone can miraculously understand and talk to all of the pets. Blythe joins them on fantastical adventures that include uproarious song-and-dance sequences featuring all-new original music by Daytime Emmy® Award nominee Daniel Ingram and the vocal talent of Ashleigh Ball, Tabitha St. Germain, Nicole Oliver and Peter New. MY THOUGHTS
I received a copy of Littlest Pet Shop: Little Pets, Big Adventures for review. There is no specified targeted age range for this series, but I would say girls anywhere from 2 to 10 years old would love it. My daughter has been a fan of the Littlest Pet Shop toys for years now, so I was glad to see a series come out that really brings the pets to life. Best of all, they are as cute (if not cuter!) on TV as they are toys. Blythe is also made to look similar to the pets, in human form of course, with colorful clothes and big, bright eyes.
From the start, my daughter and I became hooked to the opening song. In her words, “It’s SOOO catchy!” It really is. We’ve watched the DVD three times now and sing along to the song every time it’s played. It really fits in with the cute and fun persona the Littlest Pet Shop pets have. Each episode is easy to follow along and contains fun characters you immediately fall in love with.
From a mom’s perspective, I love the moral lesson in each episode. The beginning episodes detail Blythe’s move with her dad to a new apartment right above the Littlest Pet Shop. The fact that she is raised by her dad is comforting in itself, as it is not a common thing to see this relationship on TV, especially in young children’s shows. Blythe soon realizes only she can talk to the pets, who lead her on all sorts of fun adventures. Blythe finds out the pet shop is on the verge of closing and leads her own journey to save it, never letting others stand in her way. I love the strength in Blythe, and consider her a character my daughter can look up to.
