ABOUT IFOCUS JUNGLE RANGERS AND DELUXE BRAIN TRAINING SYSTEM

Jungle Rangers is a fun, self- adjusting, cognitive training video game designed to improve focus, attention and memory for ages 6 to 12. The parent’s dashboard within the Jungle Rangers game provides the parent with valuable insights including: amount of time spent on each task, tasks in which your child excels and needs additional practice. The game directly addresses the brain’s executive function through a series of games and levels that adapt to your child’s growth as they learn!

MY THOUGHTS

I received an iFocus System (Deluxe Edition) in exchange for an honest review. This system includes the Jungle Rangers computer game, Focus on Behavior module, Focus on Fitness module, Focus on Food module, Quick Start cards, and Audio CD.

Upon opening the kits, I admit I was overwhelmed and a little unsure of where to begin with this system because there is so much included with it! This is where the Quick Start cards came in handy. These cards outline tips of how to use the system for the first 5 days, and the order in which the creators recommend its use. This helped me to introduce the game to my daughter as well as get me started on all of the parent information.

The next step for me was skimming through the books and Quick Start cards of each module. There are some great tips in each book. The Focus on Behavior book, for example, outlines different types of behavioral problems and then gives advice on how to tackle them. They are small books, but contain a lot of great information. I really love the Focus on Fitness and the Focus on Food modules. I am a stickler for giving my children healthy foods and allowing them to play outside and get exercise as much as possible, and these books taught me things even I didn’t know, such as important nutrients many children don’t get enough of and how to add them to their diets. To help supplement each module, there are also Audio CDs included in which medical doctors are interviewed and give parents even more important tips for their kids in the areas of behavior, food, and fitness.

And then comes the Jungle Rangers game, the meat of this system. This is the part for your child that claims to train their brains with fun cognitive exercises that adapt to their specific level. For example, if your child is struggling in certain areas, the game will become a bit easier so your child isn’t overwhelmed. Similarly, if he or she is finding it way too easy, the game becomes more difficult so your child isn’t bored. I found this to seem true for my daughter; as she played, I didn’t notice anything that was too easy or too hard for her. It was just about right to her age level. I also liked that each game was explained beforehand by one of the Jungle Rangers so it didn’t just throw her into the game without understanding what to do. The iFocus creators recommend your child using the game for about 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week, which was no problem for my daughter. She really seemed to enjoy it while learning at the same time. She has used it for a week so far and I am excited to see the results after a few weeks, when results are supposed to become obvious as far as concentration and behavior. Until then, I love being able to log in to the parent’s dashboard on the game and seeing her progress. If nothing else, I know she is benefiting from playing a truly educational game, and I benefit from all of the great materials included with this system.
