I’ve never liked feeling cold. Since I lost most of the weight I find I tend to be colder. I’ve never had a down jacket, and was excited to receive the opportunity to try one out from the folks at Free Country Outerwear.
ABOUT THE FREE COUNTRY WOMENS TAHOE POWER DOWN JACKET
The Tahoe coat from Free Country’s Power Down Series features unique, small box quilting in an Airtouch down shell that cuts a slim profile. One of the longer Power Downs, Tahoe is amply warm even during winter in its namesake mountain town, and goes a fashion step further with a plaid fleece collar and back linings, as well as storm cuffs. Down filled with detachable, faux fur trim hood, and storm placket main closure, the interior also boasts useful cell phone, and music pockets.
MY THOUGHTS
I received a Free Country Women’s Tahoe Power Down jacket. This jacket comes in adult sizes S, M, L and L. I ordered the jacket in size XL, because I’m usually somewhere between a L and XL these days and wanted to have room underneath the jacket to wear a sweater or a hoodie. The coat does fit and I can zip it closed, but I find the coat to be a bit on the small side. I personally would not get a size XL again for myself in this coat, I’d go a size larger if one was available. If I reach forward or upwards with one or both of my arms I feel some restriction in the material. I find myself trying to be cautious, as I don’t want the coat to pull so tight that it rips.
Between the quilting and the back lining I found this coat to be super, duper warm. I was really pleased with that. It isn’t as bulky as I expected it to be, considering how warm it is. I love the storm cuffs, they close snugly around my wrists so that cold air doesn’t go up the sleeve. The sleeves are about the right length for those with average arms, my arms are a bit long so for me the sleeves are a tiny bit short in length but nothing major. I really like the length of the coat, my belly stays warm and doesn’t get uncovered and exposed to the cold like it does with some shorter jackets. I have found that when I keep my neck covered I’m not as cold, so I appreciated the fleece collar. The removable hood itself is great, but I can’t it to stay on my head. I wish there were a way to pull it tighter such as a cord, so on a windy day the hood would stay up. Right now if it’s windy it just blows down unless I physically hold it. The coat is both water resistant. I’ve worn the coat in a driving rain and I never got even the slightest bit damp. I love that the coat is machine washable. The pockets are deep enough to hold items such as a cell phone or your hands if you prefer.
I do really like this coat and recommend it, but do recommend that you order a size up if purchasing.

The coat is lovely. I think it is built for average height women thoough. Your height makes shoulder proportions different. You look great tall and lean.
