I loved Walt Disney’s fourteen full length and short subject documentaries. Those true life adventure films were magnificent, breathtaking, stunning. I’m glad the company resurrected the concept in 2007 with its Earth Day Disneynature releases.
Be assured that I have all of them–Earth, the Crimson Wing: Mystery of the Flamingos, oceans, African Cats, Wings of Life, Chimpanzee, and now Bears–in my home DVD library.
Bears is the story of Alaskan Kodiak brown bear Sky and her cubs Amber and Scout and their survival in the National Forestry wilderness. John C. Reilly narrates their adventures from their birth at the end of winter hibernation back to their den a year later. Avalanches, lack of food, wolves, and other bears are everyday realities. How they live in a harsh world and harsh weather is amazing!
Director Alastair Fothergill continues to provide audiences with cinematographic delights. The 78 minutes of G rated Bears moves quickly.
Playful, adorable, spirited cubs and mama pitted against nature’s villains like grizzly Mangus and gray wolf Tikaani provide drama. Their quest for sandbar clams and Chinook salmon provide humor. Filmed against eye-popping Katmai and Lake Clarks majestic scenery, the result is a educational family-friendly feature.
