ABOUT CRAZY ABOUT CAKES

The latest addition to Sterling’s Crazy About series gives cake lovers a trove of fun, fresh cake designs and more than 150 delicious, easy-to-make recipes. Krystyna Castella has devised something special for every occasion under the sun, from birthdays and brunches to holidays and weddings.

In this one-of-a-kind companion to Crazy About Cupcakes, Castella shows you new techniques for making cakes, and reveals how to push the creative boundaries of decorating them. Nothing says “Let’s celebrate!” like her delicious, great-looking cakes, whether it’s a delicately swirled Marble Brownie Cheesecake, or the spectacular Mini Tiered Wedding Cake for the most special day of all. There are even cakes for babies, chocoholics, fruit lovers, and ice cream fanatics. You’ll have fun baking these crafty confections in playful shapes, abd adding the finishing touches that make Castella’s recipes so unique.

MY THOUGHTS

I received a copy of Crazy About Cakes. Chapters include

  • Cakes in the Know
  • Everyday Cakes
  • Brthday Cakes
  • Special Occasion Cakes
  • Party Cakes
  • Holiday Cakes
  • Toppings & Fillings

The flaps of the soft cover book make a nice way to hold your place in case the book accidentally closes. I don’t find this book the easiest to use as there are multiple recipes on a page and some recipes take several pages. There are variations included with many of the recipes. There aren’t as many pictures as I expected or as I’d like, which was surprising to me considering that desserts can be so yummy looking. I am far more likely to find and try a recipe with a photo over one without a photo every time. Recipes are easy to understand, but do not contain prep and cooking time which I find invaluable. If you’re a confident and/or experienced baker you’ll likely enjoy adding this cookbook to your collection.
