I will admit that I had little desire to see the first 2 movies in the Beverly Hills Chihuahua series…and therefore, still haven’t seen them. However, I thought Beverly Hills Chihuahua 3: Viva La Fiesta! looked at least tolerable from the commercials. Normally, I am not a fan of the silly talking dog movies that my daughter seems to find hilarious. This one changed my opinion!
In this movie, Papi’s dog family and owners move into a luxury hotel. The pups are forced to attend a new school – a big change after having been home-schooled by Papi. The youngest pup, Rosa, feels left out of the whole process and Papi is forced to find a way to make her feel special again while overthrowing some villains along the way.
I was surprised by how many jokes for adults were in the movie. I especially got a kick out of the Pug (I own a Pug, so it was comical to see a “talking” one, let alone a….metro-sexual one, shall we say?) Another part that had me and my boyfriend in stitches was the music audition scene in which several popular bands’ names got doggy makeovers: Black Eyed Fleas and Bob Marley and Me were among the favorites. And of course I love when there is an actual moral to the story that kids can understand. This movie taught to love yourself for who you are because every person has strengths; it just might take some longer to find their own than others.
Overall, I am glad I finally found a dog movie that can possibly change my opinion on future dog movies. This one might have even given me reason to go and watch Beverly Hills Chihuahua 1& 2!
