I have a thing for cookbooks and cooking magazines. Recently Heart Publishing relased 400 Calories or Less: Easy Italian, a bookazine full of Italian recipes. For those of you that aren’t familiar with the term, a bookazine is sort of a cross between a book and a magazine that’s dedicated to one subject, in this case food.
ABOUT 400 CALORIES OR LESS: EASY ITALIAN
400 Calories Or Less: Easy Italian is a new 116-page bookazine packed with classic Italian recipes for favorites like pizzas, pastas, hearty meats, savory seafoods, extra special vegetables, and more. From the editors of Good Housekeeping, Redbook, and Country Living, these recipes offer all the satisfaction of tasty Italian cooking with none of the guilt! 400 Calories or Less: Easy Italian also offers advice for staying slim the Italian way (load up on fruits, veggies, and fish!) as well as Italian kitchen secrets like 10 easy steps to perfect pasta, a guide to the best store-bought sauces, tips on choosing olive oil, and even how to make your own ricotta cheese.
MY THOUGHTS
I received a copy of 400 Calories Or Less: Easy Italian. Italian food is one of my absolute favorites, so I was especially looking forward to checking this title out. The bookazine is broken into chapters including Italian Kitchen Secrets, Best Loved Pasta, Pronto Pizza, Rustic Risotto & Polenta, Primo Poultry, Hearty Meat, Savory Seafood, Ultimate Antipasto, Old-World Soups, Extra-Special Vegetables, Dolce Desserts and Presto Panini. I was interested to learn on page 4 that according to Good Housekeeping Research test kitchens that they don’t recommend adding oil to water when making pasta. Each and every page contained glossy, beautiful, mouth watering photos that made me drool hungry. Recipes were all easy to understand, and contained both cooking and prep time. I’ve tried two – Ravioli With Ripe Tomatoes and Perciatelli All’ Amatriciana. Both were easy to make and tasted delicious. Recipes that I absolutely can’t wait to try include Gnocchi With Sausage & Basil Sauce, Pasta Carbonara, Easy Pea Risotto, Creamy Polenta, Sausage & Potatoes, Braciole With Grape Tomatoes, Chilled Tuscan-Style Tomato Soup, Barley Minestrone, and Healthy Makeover Tiramisu.
On newsstands now, 400 Calories or Less: Easy Italian costs $9.99 and can be downloaded on Zinio at www.Zinio.com.

We have spaghetti here once every two weeks, and I make enough to last three days. I have one son who is super picky, but he loves spaghetti.
