Regrettable Decisions And My Senior Prom Date #SwitchersRemorse #VZWBuzz

Have you ever made a decision that you regretted? You know, one of those decisions where you could have chosen something else and didn’t and you were really sorry? I’ve had a couple of them. One memory that really stands out in my mind (and my parents) is  one involving my high school senior prom.

I never had any romantic relationships with any of my high school classmates. Some bullied me. Others ignored me. And yet, when prom season came around, I still wanted to go. A couple of months before the prom I decided to ask a handsome boy named Rob that I really liked from my neighborhood if he’d go to the prom with me. My Mom warned me not to ask someone to go so far in advance, in case something happened or in case I changed my mind. As is the case with many teenagers, I ignore my MOm’s suggestions. After all, Rob and I were great friends. We hug out together. We went snow shoveling together and made money. Why would I change my mind? So I asked. And Rob accepted.

And so I had a date for the prom. And yet, for some reason, I finally figured out that Rob didn’t like me the same way I liked him. And I thought that maybe since he didn’t like me romantically it would be better if I went with another boy. Jim was another boy that I knew from my town. He was cute in a bad boy kind of way. And so one afternoon I asked Jim to go to the prom. He said yes.

Here I am at the top of the world. I have boys falling at my feet (well not literally but it makes me feel better now when I look back). I had my pretty cream colored gown and I was set to go. Until Rob and Jim had a little chat. How I could not have seen that coming is beyond me. I knew they knew each other. One was from my neighborhood and one hung out in my neighborhood.

Anyway. When they both found out I’d asked the other they both said they wanted no part of it. Less than two weeks before prom night and I had no date. What’s a girl to do?

Well, a girl in this situation does the only thing that they can do. They ask their cousin to be their date.

Asking two boys to go to my senior prom is something I did regret. I believe that we all have decisions that we regret. Some are simply more embarrassing than others. It would have been nice if the two boys were as understanding as Verizon. While neither one stopped talking to me completely, things were just never the same with either one after that.
