Red White And Blue Rice Krispies Treats Recipe From Val's Kitchen

To make these, you’ll be making minor changes to the Rice Krispies recipe for treats. What you will be doing differently is dividing everything, using food colors, and adding chocolate and candy. It gives a fun, patriotic look to these classic treats. I made these treats in under 15 minutes using the microwave method. Here’s how I made them.

Red White And Blue Rice Krispies Treats

Ingredients

  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 12 oz marshmallows (I used mini marshmallows.)
  • 8 cups Kellogg’s Rice Krispies cereal
  • red, white and blue candy (I used 1x 3.14oz bag of M&Ms.)
  • blue food coloring
  • 12oz bag red candy wafers

Red White And Blue Rice Krispies Treats Recipe

Instructions

Spray 9×9 baking dish with nonstick cooking spray.

Divide the marshmallows into three bowls, two each containing 1/4 of the marshmallows and one containing 1/2 of the marshmallows.

Place 1 tbsp butter in each of the bowls containing 1/4 of the marshmallows. Place 2 tbsp in the bowl containing 1/2 of the marshmallows.

Microwave one of the bowls with 1/4 of the marshmallows for 1.5-2 minutes. Remove the bowl. Add 25 drops of blue food coloring and 2 cups of Rice Krispies and stir well. Place mixture into the baking dish and press down and together using a spatula or fork.

Microwave the bowl with 1/2 of the marshmallows for 1.5-2 minutes. Remove the bowl. Add 4 cups of Rice Krispies and stir well. Place mixture into the baking dish on top of the blue layer and press down and together using a spatula or fork.

Microwave the second bowl containing 1/4 of the marshmallows for 1.5-2 minutes. Remove the bowl. Melt one cup of the red candy wafers in the microwave, which takes 1.5-2 minutes to start getting smooth. Pour the melted red candy into the bowl with the marshmallows. Add 2 cups of Rice Krispies and stir well. Place mixture into the baking dish and press down and together using a spatula or fork.

Microwave the remaining chocolate until it has softened. Pour the melted chocolate over top of the red layer. Smooth the chocolate out with a fork. Place the m&m’s into the layer of red chocolate.

Place into the refrigerator for 10-15 minutes in order to let the chocolate set.

Cut and serve.
