We enjoy our comfort food in my family. We all like different things but in the fall and winter we all tend to prefer more warm and hot snacks than we have in spring and fall, because they’re comfort food that takes the chill off. My freezer usually contains several boxes of frozen appetizers. Someone can always be counted on to want to try whatever is new, which is why I glad to receive a chance to try new Pillsbury Savorings Flaky Pastry Bites.

From the website: “Celebrate the end of the day right where it began – at home. And with three varieties of delicious, warm and flaky Pillsbury Savorings pastry bites to choose from, staying in just got easier. Regular nights turn into special occasions when you spice them up with buffalo style chicken, mozzarella and pepperoni, or cheese and spinach varieties. The delicious fillings in every bite will satisfy even the toughest appetizer-aficionado, and convince you to extend that happy hour to a few more.

We tried the Mozzarella and Pepperoni flavor. There are 12 in the box. The nutrition facts state that the box contains 3 servings of 4 pastry bites, and that each serving is 250 calories. All I had to do to make them is preheat the oven to 425 and bake them for 19 minutes.  We thought these were much nicer than most frozen appetizers, definitely more for grownups than children. The filling was a smoother blend of flavors and that the texture of the pastry was finer and flakier. They tasted fantastic, they’re quite yummy. These are the type of appetizers I like to put out when entertaining or on the holidays. Pillsbury Savorings Flaky Pastry Bites are also available in Buffalo Style Chicken and a Cheese and Spinach flavors, and are located in the freezer section at your local grocery store. There’s currently a $1 coupon available for these on the Pillsbury site. There are also suggestions for different wines that would complement these appetizers, very handy if you’re planning a relaxing evening just for the two of you.

For the first day of the Bloggy Giveaways Quarterly Carnival I have two Savoring the Moment Gift Bags to give away. Each gift bag includes a wood wine bottle topper, a box of wine charms, a bottle opener, a wine and food guide, a stampable wine tag and an appetizer plate that also holds your wine glass. The first of the two names drawn will also receive a coupon for a free box of Savorings. To enter leave a comment on this post stating which flavor you’d like to try and one other appetizer that you make or can usually be found in your freezer. Contest ends on Sunday 11/02/08. US addresses only please. Only comments containing the requested information will be eligible. The winner will be selected using random.org and they must contact me to confirm they wish to receive the prize within three days of my email notifying them they’ve won. Good luck to everyone!
