I was invited to this event and unfortunately could not attend. Fellow Tristate Bloggers member Krista of The NYC Talon was kind enough to stand in for me. This is a guest post written by Krista. All of the photos are hers and used with permission.

Earlier this year Olive Garden unveiled their new and improved menu – with a variety of amazing new plates and options, I loved it. So, naturally, when I was invited downtown to join Olive Garden for a tasting of some of their most flavorful bites I couldn’t say no!

We started off with their Risotto Bites and Polenta Shrimp alla Greca – both part of their “small plates” offerings. I loved the Shrimp alla Grecca – which is basically sauteed shrimp served on creamy polenta with a mix of olives, capers, and tomato sauce. The flavor was really on-point – I was glad I brought my appetite!

Next, we had the Calabrian Wings – chicken wings tossed with garlic and chili peppers and served with gorgonzola dipping sauce. I was initially worried that it would be really spicy but I found they had more of a bold flavor. P.S. it’s only around for a limited time!

We also managed to eat through the Roasted Tomato Caprese Salad Topper, Smashed Chicken Meatball Sandwich, Bucatini with Spicy Three Meat Sauce & Meatballs (a part of Olive Garden’s Never Ending Pasta Bowl), Grilled Chicken with Butternut Squash Alfredo Fettuccini, and Pappardelle Pescatore – which was a real favorite of mine!

But my favorite dish from the (extensive) menu was the Chicken Abruzzi – an Olive Garden Specialty “Lighter Italian Fare” dish that clocks in at 575 calories, it’s grilled chicken breasts served over a warm, fragrant broth featuring cannellini beans, kale, and garden vegetables. Having felt under the weather the past week, it was exactly the sort of comfort food I craved!

I love that Olive Garden offers so many feel-good food options, and I love their menu! And if you’ve got a sweet tooth (like me) you won’t want to miss out on their amazing seasonal Pumpkin Cheesecake – which is topped with whipped cream, drizzled with caramel sauce, and garnished with ginger cookie crumbs – yum!

Which of the new dishes would you like to try first?

I haven't been to Olive Garden in probably 10 years. I have been hearing they're making changes to the menu - may have to try it out again!

Glad they have added some tasty lighter fare to their menu. It has been a while since we have been there because everything was so heavy. Time to give them another try.

I'd love to try the butternut squash alfredo. That sounds quite yummy!
