Nashville Chicken and Waffles Sandwich is a Southern classic meal whose unique flavor comes from a blending of textures and spices.
Nashville Chicken and Waffles Sandwich
Equipment Needed
- medium sized glass mixing bowl
- small glass mixing bowl
- large ziploc bag
- whisk
- measuring cup
- measuring spoons
Ingredients
- 4 chicken breasts tenders
- 1 tbsp salt
- ½ tbsp pepper
- ½ tbsp paprika
Breading Ingredients
- 1 cup flour
- ½ tbsp garlic powder
- 1 plus ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ tsp pepper, ground
- ½ tsp dried oregano
- ½ tsp chili powder
- ¼ tsp Old Bay seasoning
Egg Wash Ingredients
- 1 egg
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 tbsp water
- 1 tbsp Louisiana hot sauce
Nashville Sauce Ingredients
- 2 tbsp cayenne
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
- ½ tbsp paprika
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp pepper
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup frying oil ( see below )
Other Ingredients
- Frozen buttermilk waffles, toasted
- leafy green lettuce
- mayo
- pickles
- spicy sandwich spread
- tomato, sliced
Instructions
Combine the salt, pepper, and paprika and sprinkle it over the chicken.
Seal the chicken in a large ziploc bag and refrigerate for 2 hours.
Combine the breading ingredients in a medium sized bowl.
Place the egg, milk, water and hot sauce into a small glass bowl and whisk to combine.
Place the sauce ingredients into a microwave safe bowl then whisk and set aside.
Coat the chicken in the flour mixture then dip it in the egg mixture.
Dip it again in the flour mix.
Set the chicken aside to rest for 15 minutes.
Put the oil in a large frying pan and heat to 325 F.
Fry the chicken until crispy, about 10-15 minutes.
Remove ½ cup of the HOT frying oil and slowly add it to the sauce mix. Carefully whisk to combine.
Add the chicken to the glaze mix and turn repeatedly to cover completely.
Place on a parchment covered pan to rest.
Repeat with all chicken tenders and set aside.
Place the hot chicken between two waffle halves.
Top with condiments, sauce, etc.
Serve and enjoy!
