We love to watch movies in our house, especially comedies. My son TJ also really enjoys the comedian George Lopez. Knowing these things, how could I say no to the invitation to review the movie Mr Troop Mom.

It takes a special kind of dad to be a mom! Funnyman George Lopez stars as Eddie Aquinaldo, a widower trying to be both dad and mom for his nine-year-old daughter. Desperate to connect with young Naomi, Eddie volunteers to chaperone her troop at the Go Girls Jamboree at Running Pines Camp unaware he’ll be the only guy in a world of girls! Treacherous treasure hunts, cutthroat canoe soccer and slippery slimeball wars are just the start of Eddie’s introduction to the great outdoors and into his youngster’s heart. Co-starring Jane Lynch (Another Cinderella Story) and featuring tween heartthrobs Alex and Nat Wolff of the Naked Brothers Band, this wild, woodsy missadventure is barrels of fun for parents, kids and everyone in between.
Mr Troop Mom is actually a movie that was made for Nickelodeon. It’s written by Thomas Ian Griffith and directed by William Dear. The movie stars George Lopez as Eddie Serrano, a busy widower who usually pays more attention to his career as an attorney than he does to his teenage daughter Naomi (Daniela Bobadilla). Naomi and her friends worked very hard to be able to go to the Spring Action Classic camp but their leader has a baby, leaving them without a chaperone for camp. Eddie takes the girls up to camp, believing he can just be a bystander.
Miss Hulka (Jane Lynch) runs Hulka’s Rock as a no-nonsense camp and takes Eddie’s cell phone and forces him to actively participate. The competition between the Wasps and the Killer Bees begins and it’s clear that the returning champions, the Wasps, will not let go of their title easily. While he’s there he tries to hide the fact that he’s never been camping, as well as avoid the unwanted attention being shown by The Wasps troop mom (April Telek). He finds himself opening up to Julia (CC Turner), the assistant director. At the end Eddie brings in the Naked Brothers Band for a camp concert.
I don’t want to give everything away so I’ll say that we liked this family movie. It was funny but not outrageously so. The hair cutting scene was one of our favorites. Both hubby and I thought that George Lopez played his role as Naomi’s father very well. We also I liked that in the end the father did understand and connect with his daughter. I also liked that the character of Naomi helped Skylar, despite the fact the girls did not get along. I also thought it was nice that the two girls ended up friends in the end.
Mr Troop Mom is 84 minutes long. The DVD also includes special features including some additional scenes, George Lopez Goes to Camp,
