Restaurant Review – Medport Diner, Medford, NJ

On our way back from the Aquarium last month we found ourselves hungry and wanting some lunch. As we passed through Medford we decided to stop at the Medport Diner, a diner I’d passed by many times over the years but had never stopped to eat at. It was the middle of the afternoon and the diner was fairly quiet. We were seated immediately. The server took our drink order and gave us menus. The menu was quite large, with such variety that there was something to choose for everyone.

Being a soup person, I started with a cup of the cream of chicken soup, which came with crackers. The soup had great texture, it was very thick and creamy. There were pieces of both chicken and vegetables. The soup wasn’t awful but it was a tad on the bland side.

My lunch was a chicken pot pie. The crust was light and flaky. I was pleased to find the crust to be golden and not dark and dry, I don’t like dry crust at all. The inside of the pot pie was a mix of chicken and vegetables in a creamy gravy. It was flavorful and filling.

My friend Kim ordered the chipped beef. I’ve heard it mentioned for years, occasionally by another unflattering name that I never quite understood, but had never tasted it. Being the good “sister” that she is, Kim was kind enough to indulge my desire to taste her meal. It was served over potatoes that I didn’t try, I was only curious about the beef. I thought the beef and gravy was decent, it wasn’t a super strong flavor but it was something I’d try on my own at some point.

If you know me at all you know I love cheesecake. I always look to see if cheesecake is on a menu if I am out at a restaurant. This diner had a couple of different types of cheesecake. I chose the plain. It was acceptable but it just had that I’m not fresh baked feel to it.

The Medport Diner is located at 122 New Jersey 70 Medford, NJ 08055. The menu has a large variety and the portions are generous. Pricing is very reasonable. While it didn’t wow me and totally blow me away I can say the service was good and the food decent for the price, and I would stop in again.
