Our homes represent that enjoyable place we spend our time gathering for meals, resting, and feeling safe and secure. When we age, the home may become the danger zone that we never expected. Our tips today will get your home back to being your favorite place to be by making it fun and enjoyable.
When Mobility Limits You
One of the hard parts of aging is the inability to move around like we once did. It becomes even harder if you are suffering from a chronic illness or have had a surgery. Your lovely two-story home may now feel incredibly inhibiting and forcing you to only stay on the main floor. There are options that you can install to help you move around and still look beautiful. Chair lifts and shaftless residential elevators are favorites amongst the senior community and one you should consider installing. You will appreciate the ease of going to the second floor and be able to enjoy all of your home just as you had prior.
Let Someone Else Handle The Cleaning
Cleaning and maintaining your home can become an exhaustive adventure for the younger generations, we can only imagine how tiring it is for you to clean your home. Avoid any major cleaning mistakes, like doing too much at one time, by getting others to handle the job for you. Asking family to come by for the tough jobs would be the first step. If your family won’t help or you don’t have family nearby, consider hiring someone to come in and clean. How much they clean is up to you. You can get someone to do the heavy lifting or things that require someone to climb a ladder. You can hire someone a couple of times of year to do the serious deep cleaning the home needs. If you hate cleaning, you can hire someone to come in and regularly do the work. Whatever you need to feel like your home is well taken care of and you are enjoying it!
Get Your Craft On
Assuming that you are retired, or work part-time, you may have lots of time on your hands to finally do whatever you want. Some people struggle with the idea of having that much time and are unsure of how to fill it. DIY projects to decorate the home with are a popular way to be artistic, crafty, and decorate your home for significantly less. You could make some lovely wall hangings for your bathroom, grow flowers in the garden to grace your dining room and living room or make quilts for the bedrooms.
Redo Your Photographs
A home always feels complete with pictures on the wall and mantles. Now is a great time to revisit what you have gracing your home and what you would like to see. Pull out the box of photographs or get some pictures printed so that you can artfully hang them around the house. If you love scrapbooking, you could turn your walls into scrapbooking pages. Imagine being able to tour your guests through the home and sharing the memories that these images spark!
Whether you choose to create a space that makes it easier for you to move or get help cleaning, we just want to see you continue to enjoy your home as you age. It is part of what makes you uniquely you!
