Looking to give your preschooler a little jump start? Apps are becoming a popular and affordable way to provide young children with both educational materials and entertainment. Enter Joy Sprouts, a preschool educational app designed for children ages 2-6.
Created by educational professionals, Joy Sprouts’ award winning games and activities develop a range of important skills to help your child’s total development. The app focuses on helping your child improve in 5 key areas:
- Cognition and General Knowledge (Math, Science, and Social studies)
- Language and Literacy
- Learning Approaches
- Social and Emotional Development
- Physical Development and Health
The app provides personalized reports that allow you to follow your child’s progress across key areas of development. Based on the U.S. Dept. of Health & Human Services’ Head Start Framework, Joy Sprouts will delight your child while ensuring they are learning important skills. The customizable reports show areas of improvement and weakness, as well as recommendations from Joy Sprout’s educational experts on additional modules to help your child reach their full potential.

The app is easy to use. When you install it you are prompted to add one or more children. Enter their name, sex, and date of birth. Then it’s time to play!

Joy Sprouts comes with several modules preloaded. -New learning modules are slated to be added every month for ongoing development.

Where Is Pooky leads Garfield on a quest to find Pooky.
Skills covered in this module reenforce shape and color recognition, reasoning and pattern recognition.

In That’s My Job your child picks what occupation Garfield is in, and then does tasks associated with that job.
The main skills in this module are using logic and deductive reasoning.
My Dad places your child in a fire station. You help find hidden objects and then put out a fire.
Skills here require object recognition and matching.
I think the app is terrific. I love how bright and colorful everything is. I appreciate knowing the content in the app comes from early childhood development experts, as well as well known publishers such as Oxford University Press and the BBC. The app is free, which is terrific, and it’s great that there aren’t any in-app purchases to worry about.
The app has already won several awards, including:
- Silicon Valley’s TiE50 Awards Winner, recognizing top startups internationally
- Horizon Interactive Awards Gold Winner in Education
- MobEx’s Best Mobile mCommerce Award
What early educational skills does your child enjoy practicing and learning?

My kids are too old for this app, but I will share it with my relatives who have younger kids. It looks like a fun app!
