REVIEW – Jen & Joe’s Cookie Dough

I have no problem at all admitting that I sometimes use premade cookie dough.  There are times that I appreciate the convenience of letting someone else do the prep work. If the refrigerated section of your grocery store is anything like mine then you know that there are basically two games in town – chocolate chip cookies and sugar cookies. There’s often even less then that in the frozen section. I’ve always thought it would be nice to see some other options over there. And now that has happened here in parts of New Jersey and the rest of the East Coast.

Jen & Joe’s Cookie Dough doesn’t contain any artificial flavors, colors, preservatives, additives, or hydrogenated fats or oils. And, just like homemade, it’s made using real eggs and butter. This frozen cookie dough comes ready to bake in individual servings. No cutting, scooping or anything needed, just open the package and put them on a baking sheet. The upside of individual servings is that you can make one or two at a time, just put the rest into a Ziploc bag. I don’t know that most people think of premade cookie dough in that way, if the package was resealable that’s make it even easier.

Jen & Joe’s Cookie Dough comes in six  flavors: Chocolate Chunk, Snickerdoodle, Chocolate Spice, Oatmeal Toffee, Lemon Drop, and White Chocolate Wasabi. I received samples of all of them. There are twelve individual cookies in each box. Wanting to judge the cookies on a taste I was familiar with I chose to make the Snickerdoodle and the Chocolate Chunk first.

I started with the Snickerdoodle, since that one gets baked at 350 f. The dough is in pre-formed balls, all you do is drop them onto a baking sheet. I did line the baking sheet as suggested to help prevent sticking.

The Snickerdoodles were amazing. They tasted as fresh as any bakery cookie or homemade cookie could. The ratio of cinnamon and sugar was perfect. I could eat these all day long. Oh and I should mention. These smell ah-mazing!

Next up was the Chocolate Chunk. These were also in pre-formed balls.

Now these were really interesting to me. I expected basically an ordinary chocolate chip cookie, but with bigger pieces of chocolate. That is not what I got. The Jen & Joe’s Chocolate Chunk Cookie is made with an extra brown sugar for a deeper flavor, which it had. Plus, the cookies have a dusting of sugar, something I hadn’t expected or had before. The sugar made it a little crunchy, and made it taste unlike any other chocolate chunk cookie I’ve ever had. While there wasn’t gobs of chocolate, the chocolate flavor it had was distinct and rich. This all made for a very unique and yummy cookie for me.

We’ve made our way through four of the six boxes now, each one as yummy as the one before. The only two we haven’t tried are the Oatmeal Toffee and the White Chocolate Wasabi. We’ll probably make the Oatmeal Toffee this weekend. We don’t like wasabi so that one we’re going to skip and  give to an adventurous friend.
