Making Room On The Desk For the #IntelAIO PC HP Envy Rove 20 All-In-One Computer

I’m on the computer a lot. Actually, let me correct myself. I’m on the computer A LOT. At present I do not have an office. Our house is small and it just isn’t possible. So, I use a corner of the living room. I have a funky combination of desk, file cabinet, and bakers rack. There’s not a lot of room and there is a lot of stuff. I’ve had what’s considered to be an “all-in-one” computer for years. An old iMac. I loved it and it served me well for many years but I can honestly say that it was far from all-in-one. Aside from the computer, I also had a keyboard, mouse, usb hub, external hard drive, video cam and cd burner. The setup took up quite a bit of room on the desk, as you can probably see from the picture. The computer was chunky like a television, and then I had everything next to it and above it on a shelf on top of the desk. There was barely enough room for me to use the computer. Sitting by the compuer to do something with one of the kids or the husband was next to impossible. Well I am so excited to say, it’s all gone. In it’s place is a new Intel AIO PC, the HP Envy Rove 20.

I was a bit skeptical that the Intel AIO would in fact be AIO. After all, the box was literally about one fourth of the size of every other computer box I’ve ever had to open. basically, the box is about the same size as that of a laptop.

I remember setting up the iMac years ago. Unboxing the computer, connecting cables for the peripherals I had to have, connecting to the internet so I could update drivers, and installing software. It took a bit of time.  I figured it would only take minutes to take the computer out of service and replace it with the new Intel AIO. Taking the iMac out of service, however, took 35 minutes.

It took only ten minutes to unbox, set up, connect and get the HP Envy Rove 20 All-In-One up and running.

There were no issues on what to put where, and what would be connected how. The computer only requires one cable, and that is for power. The keyboard and mouse are wireless. The hard drive? It’s built into the computer, specifically it’s part of the display screen. To set it up I only had to plug it in, turn it on, and go through the menus telling it my name and entering my wifi password. That was it.

Remember I mentioned how it was hard for me to sit with the kids or the husband by the computer? That problem doesn’t exist anymore. Not only is there a lot of free room at the desk, but we’re no longer bound to the desk. Sure, the keyboard and mouse are wireless, but you don’t need em! The Envy Rove 20 AIO is portable. It has a touchscreen! The AIO can be used much like you would use a tablet. Just close the display stand and take the computer where you need to go. No power cord needed, the Intel AIO has a 3 hour battery life. I can easily share what’s happening on the screen with anyone nearby. And, if they aren’t next to me all I need to do is spin it around. Our nightly ritual has changed too. My youngest likes to sit next to me, sometimes we play an app on the iPad, sometimes we watch tv, sometimes we just hold hands.

I find new things to love about this computer every day. It took me a few days to get used to Windows 8, and every now and then I still find myself learning something new about the operating system. In fairness though, any time I’ve moved to a new operating system there’s been an adjustment period, so it’s to be expected. I love this computer. I can do work on it. I can have fun. I can watch a movie. One morning my son and I snuggled up together on the couch and watched a movie together. We can even play games on it as a family! I wouldn’t want to play Monopoly on a small tablet, but playing it on the AIO is a blast.
