Massage Envy Spa

I’ve heard about hot stone massages for a while now but hadn’t had one until recently. Not long ago, I visited my local Massage Envy Spa to try their Hot Stone Envy Massage.

Hot Stone Envy melts away tension, eases muscle stiffness, and increases circulation and metabolism. Each 1 1/2-hour Hot Stone session features the placement of smooth, water-heated stones at key points on the body to allow for deeper relaxation of the muscles. Our professional massage therapists then incorporate a customized massage, with the use of hot stones, to create a healing and relaxing experience.

Some of the benefits of a Hot Stone Envy Massage include:

  • Eases muscle stiffness and tension
  • Increases circulation and warms deeper muscles
  • Decreases stress and anxiety
  • Good for chronic pain, rheumatic/arthritic conditions, fibromyalgia

Hot Stone Massage At Massage Envy

Upon my arrival at Massage Envy I was asked to complete a form detailing any problem areas and any health conditions the massage therapist should be aware of. then I was escorted back to one of their private massage rooms.

A hot stone massage takes place in the same type of room as a traditional massage. If you’ve never had a massage, they have a great number of benefits. Just some of those benefits are to relieve stress, reduce your heart rate, promote relaxation, improve circulation,  relax your muscles, improve flexibility, improve range of motion, promote easier breathing, relieve headache pain, and improve rehabilitation following an injury.

In the room I found a traditional massage table. I also found a large pan (it reminded me of one of my roasting pans) that contained how water and a variety of smooth stones. I was given privacy to make myself comfortable on the table and then the session began.

Working on one area of the body at a time, the therapist used a combination of her hands and hot stones. When she used the stones it seemed to me that the stones were just an extension of her hands, instead of applying pressure with her fingers she used the stones. The feeling was completely different than that of the traditional massage I’d had there once before. The amount of pressure was different, presumably because of the weight of the stones. But, the pressure wasn’t so much that it was uncomfortable or painful. I was surprised to find that throughout the session, while the hot stones did cool slightly they never got cold. At no point was the massage ever uncomfortable, and she asked periodically throughout the sessions if the pressure and temperature being used was acceptable for me.  My stress tends to live mainly in my shoulders and neck. At the end of my session I did feel much more relaxed, and the knots I’d had beforehand no longer bothered me. I found the Hot Stone Envy to be a great way to relax both mentally and physically.

I've never had this type of massage but it just might benefit my achy body. This cooler rainy summer weather really has me in misery.

Curious as to how I who hate hot things would tolerate it anywhere much less sore, sensitive spots.
