ABOUT HOMEMADE CONDIMENTS

Take your home-cooked meals to the next level.

Introducing “Homemade Condiments,” a new full-color cookbook offering 75 classic recipes and gourmet twists on your favorite condiments using fresh, natural ingredients.

Forget reaching for store-bought dressings, sauces and dips. Instead, let “Homemade Condiments” guide you step-by-step as you make your own.

Chop, stir and simmer fresh tomatoes, onions and chile peppers into a Spicy Chipotle Ketchup perfect for a Southwestern-style meatloaf. Blend herbs from your garden with mustard seeds and vinegar for a Champagne-Dill spread that adds a tangy bite to a smoked turkey sandwich. Or combine and cook red jalapeno chile peppers, vinegar, and brown sugar to create a Rooster-style sauce that kicks up the heat on pizza or poached eggs.

The secret to exciting, homemade meals IS the sauce.

MY THOUGHTS

Chapters in this cookbook include:

  • Ketchups
  • Barbecue & Other Essential Sauces
  • Mustards & Mayonnaises
  • Pickles & Relishes
  • Hot Sauces & Salsa
  • Infused Oils & Vinegars
  • Salad Dressings
  • Ethnic & Specialty Condiments
  • Sweet Sauces & Spreads

The cookbook begins with a brief history of sauce making, and some helpful tips if you’re going to try it. Then come the recipes. The recipes are all easy to understand. Each one includes a little information about the recipe, as well as common uses. It also tells you how long you can safely store each in the fridge. There is a lot of color clipart throughout the book, but not many photos of the recipes themselves. I wish there were more included, along with prep and cooking time, as those are two things that help me decide what I’m going to make and sometimes if what I’ve made turned out right. Recipes I’m thinking I’ll try first include Fresh Tomato Ketchup,Tomato-Based Barbecue Sauce, Sun-Dried tomato Mayonnaise, Dill Pickles, Herbed Balsamic Vinegar, Teriyaki Sauce, and Bacon Jam. This book would be great for anyone that enjoys many different condiments, entertaining making things from scratch, as well as those that like to concoct.

DOES THE BOOK SHOW PREP TIME AND AVERAGE COST?

No, prep time is not included. If you mean average cost for the condiment, no it is not, likely due to variations in cost for ingredients.
